Evan Christopher's - Django à la Créole
The Sunday Times - Jazz Album of the Year 2010
Thursday 28 July @ 8pm
Hello,
Experience The Sunday Times 2010 Jazz Album of the Year live and celebrate the musical traditions of New Orleans with Evan Christopher's - Django à la Créole.
For clarinetist Evan Christopher, Django à la Créole is the result of a forced journey from his home in New Orleans. In what might be seen as a positive aftermath of the Hurricane Katrina disaster in 2005, Christopher temporarily relocated to Paris, focusing his actions on raising awareness for the musical culture that had put New Orleans on the map rather than that of Hurricane Katrina.
For his Django à la Créole project he is accompanied by three of the most eminent gypsy jazz ambassadors; David Blenkhorn (guitars), Dave Kelbie (guitars), Sebastien Girardot (bass).
Christopher and his colleagues took their primary inspiration for Django à la Créole from legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt's collaborations with American musicians, which included New Orleans clarinetists on several occasions.
After a sell-out concert at Kilkenny Arts Festival 2010, they stop off in Ireland for a one night performance at the Mermaid (home of the Bray Jazz Festival) on Thursday 28 July.
