Library Staff Reading Recommendations

From Rob Lerman, Reference Librarian, "I almost never read books while they're popular. After the demand has dissipated, the dust has settled and the hype only a memory, then I wilRob Lermanl consider a book on its merits."

Three Seconds by Anders Roslund and Borge Hellstrom.  A tight, highly suspenseful Swedish crime novel about a police informant sent deep into a drug cartel and disowned by his handlers.

We Are Wisconsin by Erica Sagrans.  Short essays by participants and observers of the uprising last year against the
anti-union legislation enacted by the Wisconsin legislature. In many ways the Wisconsin protest prefigured the Occupy movement later in the year.

American Savior
by Rolland Merullo.  Jesus Christ appears suddenly on the political scene as a candidate for president.  He's got some valuable teachings for an American electorate that's on the brink of splitting apart.  Written in 2008, American Savior
is no less pertinent today.

Slim Down Your Books This Summer

overdriveWith summer around the corner there's plenty of thoughts about slimming down our bodies, but have your ever thought about slimming down your books?

With an ereader, such as a Nook, Kindle, or iPad, you
can fit hundreds of books into a portable device that weighs less than one hard-cover!  The library has you covered when it comes to filling your ereader up with delicious reads and the most popular titles.  Overdrive, the library's service for downloadable ebooks and audiobooks, gives you access to the titles that will keep you entertained while traveling or relaxing on the beach.  We've made some YouTube  videos you can watch to help you get started downloading for your Kindle, Kindle Fire, Nook, or iPad.

Farewell to Mike Wick

MikeReference Librarian Mike Wick's last day at the WFL was on April 30th.  Here's a few parting thoughts from Mike: "I can't fully express how much I've enjoyed working at the Wellesley Free Library, which has allowed me to meet so many interesting people. In the three short years I've been here I've made so many connections with our patrons... thanks to them all, for their support of an amazing library, and thanks to my knowledgeable coworkers for making this library such an interesting place to work."

We will miss Mike and wish him luck in his future endeavors!
