OFFICER GREETING!

Dear SEN Members,

SAM_2010

We are starting the new year with many ideas and plans. We are still focusing our meeting on Social Media. Social Media to me is a broad term when it comes to networking without actually being somewhere like our meetings. I am not one to extend the focus to technology.

Since I have been a web designer/developer and in the past a technical illustrator, the word technology scares girls more then wrestling. Even though the place of girls is moving up fast, they still shy away from the technology careers like engineering and programming. We girls now dominate the accounting area.

 Social Media it is and most girls do like to be sociable. I believe having speakers talk about the same subject can only bring a new perspective to the same thing.

We are also working on having a beer tasting in April. The date is set for Thursday April 7 and the theme is "Beer Tasting, Not Just For Girls." We are excited about it. It should be a great success.

See you at the next meeting,

It Isn't Just for Girls!"

Join SEN for a fun-packed evening, tasting the micro-brewed beers of Rock Bottom Brewery accompanied by music and networking.

Our theme is Not Just For Girls. I know I can ask my husband to this one. I believe he will enjoy it as I will. It is going to have food, lots of beer and a raffle. Get ready; it is going to be fun.

Set aside Thursday April 7, 2011, for some fun at the Rock Bottom Brewery at the Desert Ridge Mall from 5 to 8. We are also selling the 64-oz. Growler refill and you can fill it with your choice of beers.

It is for a good cause. Our network supports the growth of women in business and education. Your participation contributes to our effort. -- SAM Sites

What's new... There are two new features in WIN courses designed to help job seekers.  One is "Resumes that Get Interviews" and the other "Interviews that Get Offers".  They are designed to support members jump start their career... and they are free of charge.

For this issue, I want to refer to an article from the District VI semi-annual communiqué called "Community of Aliveness" regarding the reasons you should recruit for ABWA:

·   To expand your group's network not just locally, but on the district and national level as well;

·   To enhance ABWA's reputation in your community;

·   To practice organizational leadership skills;

·   To achieve national recognition for yourself and for your group at district and national conferences;

·   To put into practice valuable team-building skills that will show tangible results;

·   And the number one reason is because any woman anywhere benefits by being part of a prestigious, dynamic, and innovative organization!

And with that, I urge you to invite a guest at the next meeting and encourage them to join this incredible group of women. ;)

FINANCE REPORT

Here's to a great 2011.

Janet_2010

The new year is starting off with a bang. We had a successful raffle, raised money for both our 501(c)6 filing and also our selected charity, Homeward Bound. It may not have been a large amount, but is certainly more than we had when we started.

I have also received nominations for our Woman of the Year and want to thank everyone who took the time to complete the application. Our new Woman of the Year will be announced at the February meeting and will be honored in March at the annual Showcase sponsored by the Arizona Regional Council.

We are listing our meetings on several networking websites and hopefully you are all using your social media to promote these. The speakers over the last few months have been very helpful (at least to me) in informing us how to promote ourselves.

So, here's to a great 2011.
