| OFFICER GREETING! | |
Message from your President,
Mike Hayashi, M.Ed.
Only a handful of people will read this newsletter, if any... so why have I stressed over every single issue for almost 2 years, knocking my head against the wall putting together my monthly Letter from your President? Can only think of a couple reasons:
(1) My philosophy I based my training on since 1986 is simple: If my message reaches one woman who needed to hear it, than it's always worth the time & effort.
(2) When I accepted the responsibility of holding the this office as the President of the Scottsdale Express Network, I promised our past President, Norma, and my Executive Board that I would do my best to fulfill all the duties required to hold this group together and maintain its professional standards.
My message this month is simple, but critical, powerful and timely:
- Do what you do - better than anyone would ever expect from you
- Promote what you do, so people hear about it from others they trust
- Develop your "uniqueness" to a point that everyone wants to know more
- Offer your services at a price that shouts out: Expert, Authority and Quality
- Decide to allow SEN & its members to assist you in marketing your business
How? Start by making a promise & commitment to attend the SEN Meeting every 2nd Tuesday this month and every month from now on. Networking with members of a National Organization such as ABWA can only enhance your search for ways to promote you and your services daily.
Remember: "A Woman's Place..... is in CONTROL!"
Register yourself and bring a guest to the next meeting - Tuesday, June 8 for another business-expanding 90 minutes.
Stay Healthy & Safe,
Mike Hayashi, President

The Ecology of Transformation
presented by Joyce C. Mills, Ph.D.
"When you know where you are, you'll know where you're going." Award-winning author of seven books, including Butterfly Wisdom and Reconnecting to the Magic of Life, Dr. Joyce C. Mills shows how we can discover exactly where we are in the process of change, how to overcome obstacles placed in our path, ultimately discovering how to live a balanced and joyful life.
In her uniquely captivating and spirited style, internationally recognized speaker, storyteller, author, and healer, Dr. Joyce creatively combines science, spirit, and metaphor showing how each of the four passages of the butterfly's development mirrors our inner journey and quest for full-winged emergence. Significant to her process, Dr. Joyce will share how the scientific secret of the butterfly's transformation relates to our inner gifts, skills, and soulful resources.

May is here already!!! We are heading into the last of the District Conferences. May is a critical month as it's time to elect our chapter leaders. We need to reflect upon the year to figure out what were the good things we did and what were the lessons learned. Evaluating the past is essential in crafting a successful plan for the next ABWA year. A crucial step in this process is to plan at least one joint board meeting between the outgoing board and the incoming board. At a minimum, this joint meeting should incorporate the following activities:
1. Review of Lessons Learned: Why we did it and what we learned from it.
2. Best Practice Binder: Break it down and have a representative from each board work together to complete a section.
3. Budgeting: Plan the next chapter year's budget as a team.
4. Business Plan: What needs to change in that plan.
The outgoing board has the experience to assist the new board with the planning for the upcoming year. It allows for a smooth transition.
This is also the time of year when our groups should be planning ways to help their members pay to attend the National Leadership Conference in Chattanooga. There is still time to do the installment plan. Remember the goal is 1 (yourself) + 2 (friends) + 1 First timer. If your group has not sent someone to a conference, this is a perfect opportunity to ensure they have a very memorable experience. With nearly 5 months left until National Conference, there is still time to organize fundraisers and help members wishing to attend get to Chattanooga. As all of the plans are being completed for the event from the National Team, it's a great time to make sure that you and fellow members are claiming a seat for our Celebration in Chattanooga, TN, October 28-30.
Crafting a successful plan for your chapter isn't the only important thing to focus on right now. Crafting a successful plan for achieving your goals is also essential. How do you do that? Start by finding a moose. Massie the Moose on WIN, that is. WIN has an abundance of resources waiting to aid members in their efforts to better themselves and others. In addition to learning how to use WIN, you'll have the ability to connect with members from all over the country. Take the new Resumes that Get Interviews courses out for a test drive. We continue to set a fast pace among all professional associations. Our new mantra may be "Catch us if you Can." WIN is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, you can work on your resume, post pictures, pull information out of the Library, and take all your courses in your bathrobe. Make sure you and your chapter members are taking advantage of all it has to offer.
I look forward to seeing all of you in Chattanooga, TN,- Oct. 28-30. Take advantage of the wonderful opportunities attending a National Conference can offer each one of you.
Yours in Service,
2009-10 National President

| | ANNUAL HUNGER KNOWS NO SEASON FOOD DRIVE | | Let's Do Our Part to Help the Local Food Banks
We are now in our second month of our hunger drive and, if you have already made your donation, thank you.
School will be out soon and many of the children who receive free or reduced cost breakfast or lunch will need help for the summer. They need the protein from the peanut butter and tuna. And the food bank can always use the money to supply other essentials.
So, if you have not made your donation, do it in June or July. Remember, July is the end of our drive. We have a goal of $500 in cash, 500 jars of peanut butter, and 500 cans of tuna fish. Tucson has almost made their goal of $500 in cash, so let's show them we can do it also.
