OFFICER GREETING!

Mike HayashiMessage from your President, Mike Hayashi, M.Ed.

Can you believe we're 1/3 of the way into 2010 already?...Did you jot down your goals for the year back on December 31st?  If so, how are you doing with that?  Have you completed or been consistent to have 33% of all your annual goals taken care of, either personally or professionally? Most of us didn't bother to write specific goals down (or) haven't kept tabs on them; or started on them in January and let the "day-to-day" challenges and interruptions get in the way by this time.

Don't feel discouraged! The majority of business owners in the Valley and the country are in the same boat.  Look at it this way - we all still have 2/3rds of 2010 left to work on our goals and any changes we really want to make happen.  As someone who has been guilty of this dilemma more than once in my career, I know I'm not alone and need people around me who can remind me of where I am, what I need to do and be the example of how to stay on task daily, weekly and monthly.

Our own Scottsdale Express Network can assist us with this as little or as much as we allow.  The resources available to us to: educate, inspire, inform, empower, encourage and be the mentor we all can use during the year.  Even if you make a conscious effort to simply attend a short once-a-month meeting to network with others with the same concerns and challenges would be a start. Spending quality time to share information, promote your services, find out how other people are doing, and learn from guest speakers, trainers and experts is time well spent.  An organization that has survived decades in cities across the country has the platform, structure and systems to help us increase our professionalism, effectiveness and our bottom lines.  Isn't that we all want for the short and long-term?

Join us for the next 3-4 months, 11:30 am-1:15 pm - every 2nd Tuesday of the month and I can promise you that you will gain, as long as you're willing to share and give back. I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully seeing your smiling faces on May 11th, June 8th, July 13th and August 10th at Un-Bacio Italian Bistro on Gainey Ranch. Have a memorable, safe month and we'll look forward to you helping us make this a great, empowered and profitable 2010.

Who's with me?  See you on Tuesday, May 11th!

Remember:  "A Woman's Place..... is in CONTROL!"

Register yourself and bring a guest to the next meeting - Tuesday, May 11 for another business-expanding 90 minutes.

Stay Healthy & Safe,

Mike Hayashi, President

A MOMENT FOR YOU by Beth Terry

Feeling a tad wiped out by this last year? It's been quite a ride. Time to take a step back and regroup; Spring is always good for that. We clean house, hold garage sales, dust off the New Year's Resolutions and see if we've made any progress. It's a wondrous time of year to remember that even in the darkest of times, there is always Hope.

Don't just clean out the house this Spring - Take your brain out and hose it off. Then dance with it for awhile.

Turn off the TV tonight and make a decision to sit on the back porch and enjoy the earth waking up again. Make plans to go to your local botanical garden. Schedule a massage. Take a friend or sweetheart dancing. Get brave and cook up something wild and different. Contact an old friend you haven't seen in awhile. Repot some flowers. Reframe an old picture. Build a birdhouse.

Whatever you do, don't make it hard work. Do something creative and fun that re-energizes you. If you need a reason - here's one: Your Endorphin System Requires It. Stress wears out your endorphin system. Too much cortisol is produced (which causes those sudden extra rolls around your waist!) And you start to feel burned out.

Creativity, laughter, new or different routines -- these are the things that wake up your internal pharmacy and make you happy again. Renew yourself. Not just for you, but for all of us. We need you. And we need you healthy!

Happy Spring!

Blessings, Beth Terry

ANNUAL HUNGER KNOWS NO SEASON FOOD DRIVE
HKNS_2010Let's Do Our Part to Help the Local Food Banks

The annual council hunger drive is now underway. Our goal this year is 500 jars of peanut butter, 500 cans of tuna, and $500.

Proceeds will benefit both St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance and the Tucson Community Food Bank. There are hungry people all over the state. We will be collecting from now through the July meeting, so please start bringing your donations.

We will keep track on the council website (abwa-arizona.org) so be sure to keep checking to see how close we are to reaching our goal. Flyers and fact sheets will be available at the meeting, so please pick some up and post at your doctor's office, beauty salon, church, wherever people will see it. This is not a one-person job, everyone needs to participate.

Everyone who benefits from our efforts will thank you. Don't forget that you can use your credit card to make a donation. Just go to abwa-arizona.org and click the link for Paypal.

By the way, tuna fish is on sale this week at Albertsons at 2/$1.00. Buy a dozen and bring them to the May meeting.
