OFFICER GREETING!

Mike Hayashi Message from your President, Mike Hayashi, M.Ed.

This month's message targets anyone who is looking for suggestions to make 2010 a much better, rewarding, prosperous and safe year.  ABWA and the Scottsdale Express Network are built on the concept of sharing ideas and the talents and services of its members. Over the past two years, the economy has forced all of us to become better marketers, communicators and promoters of our own products and services.

As someone who has experienced both ends of this annual dilemma; I'd like to share a few ideas to help you create a kinder and gentler year.  April's meeting will show all attendees how to impact potential clients and/or generate solid referrals after just...  9 seconds!

How much do people really remember about your services after you've shared your commercial at a monthly breakfast or lunch meeting?  Do they know what makes you special? Will they think of you "1st" if they ever need you?  And, could they effectively explain to someone else what you do and how good you really are?

If not, I urge you to mark this month's meeting on your calendar to make ABWA and SEN a part of your "success plan" and allow the organization and its members assist you this year.  We will be doing fun, practical results-oriented activities together to give your professional commercials more zing and pizzazz.

We all need to hang together, to meet and support one another, and my hope is that you clear your calendar on Tuesday, April 13th for our next SEN Luncheon at Un-Bacio in Gainey Ranch.

Remember:  "A Woman's Place..... is in CONTROL!"

Register yourself and bring a guest to the next meeting - Tuesday, April 13 for another business-expanding 90 minutes. And bring your gently-used clothing for Blessings Resale Shop to assist women in crisis.

Stay Healthy & Safe,

Mike Hayashi, President

HOW TO TURN REFERRALS INTO REVENUES

A referral is a precious gift. Treat it is as such. When you are offered the privilege of a contact name, ensure you maximize the opportunity by taking advantage of one or more of the following strategies.

We don't like surprises. Contrary to what many people think, this is a fact in the adult world. We are all too busy. Calling someone out of the blue is a recipe for disaster. Even using a referral source's name is usually not enough to gain the person's attention, let alone their interest. On the other hand, when your name and your call have been properly explained, you will be received as a valued resource.

We like to share good news. When a colleague or client mentions a referral, it is because they feel a high level of trust and satisfaction about you, your product and/or your company. Allow them the opportunity and the satisfaction to share their story with the other person prior to your contact. It's a chance for her/him to renew their feelings of value. We want our friends to succeed.A referral is a precious gift. It's an indication that the other person believes in you and the value you represent. Make sure you stay in touch with her/him as you proceed. She/he wants to help you succeed because of the strong bond you have created. Give her/him the opportunity to participate in the process by keeping her/him informed of your progress.

We care about our relationships. The relationships we have and the relationships we make are among our most valuable and valued assets. One of the reasons others don't offer more referrals is that they are concerned about the effect on their relationship. Make sure you stay in contact with your referral source to confirm you are in fact helping build their relationship through your attitude and your actions. It's your fastest way to even more referrals.

Make every referral a success story. Most people overlook the tremendous amount of trust, confidence and respect necessary for a referral. Every time a colleague or client shares a name, an opportunity or an insight, she/he is offering an incredible opportunity. See every referral as a success story. As such, make sure you relate good news to your referral source.

ANNUAL HUNGER KNOWS NO SEASON FOOD DRIVE
hunger 2010Let's Do Our Part to Help the Local Food Banks

Once again it is time for our annual Hunger Knows No Season campaign. Some of your may remember when we started this campaign about ten years ago, it was fashioned after a campaign Normal Earl had started in Omaha, Nebraska, and was called Christmas in July.

We are still supporting St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance and I feel this is important as they are local, and we are helping our neighbors. But, we need your help.

Mike Hayashi of Scottsdale Express Network and Alisa Rogoff of Paradise Express Network have agreed to work on the committee and Pat Fehlhaber of Turquoise Camel Chapter and St. Mary's Food Bank will be working closely with us.

We will be contributing protein this year with tuna fish and peanut butter.

Yet we still need some suggestions on how to make this a successful year. How about a business or organization to partner with in order to increase our size. Do you know who might like to partner with us?

This year, our campaign will begin April 1 and run until the July ARC meeting. We're counting on you to help us start off with a bang.

Janet Maxwell
