Falling In Love With Fall - Oct. 2011
Honors and Antics, openings and premieres - Fall is just underway, but it's proving to be a really exciting time for Khamit Kinks and for me personally! In this issue of your favorite newsletter I catch you up on the people who are lovin' on your girl (blush) and the great fun we had at a massive annual Brooklyn gathering and at our own celebratory blast! I'm also tickled to announce the birth of my precious and precocious film-baby and to give you a tip about that truly important right fit. If you haven't yet, stop by to say hello and to see our new diggs. And we hope you'll do your best to make your Fall an exciting time of renewal as well!

We had fun at The Atlantic Antic

Atlantic Antic 2
We had a wonderful time at the Atlantic Antic! We saw so many folks whom we knew, who knew us, and new peeps for sure!  The funny question that many asked again and again, was: "So where are you now?"  As I pointed behind me and they expressed surprised delight!  There were easily tens of thousands of folks at Atlantic Antic.  I believe it has to be one of largest street festivals in the country!  Fashion, hair, creativity of all versions, were to be seen and available for purchase.  There was no shortage of exotic and yummy food and drink and music too.  The law firm in the next block had a Latin band out front that was cooking, and I don't mean food!  They were awesome!  Taeisha, Melody and Aingeel had booths with their businesses and I enjoyed shopping with them.  It rained an hour before the end time.  But still it was a lot of fun.

A Season To Be HonoredAnu
Anu & Marci Walker

There comes a time in life when people start to really appreciate you.  You wonder if that means you're getting old...  But all jokes aside, I was humbled by being awarded two weekends in a row!  First there was the Master Pioneer Awards held at The Brooklyn Museum on September 16th.  This award was to honor those who were at the vanguard of natural hair care. The following weekend I was given an award at the S.E.L.F. ImageAwards in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Marci Walker, owner of Madam Walkers Braidery, produces an Image Awards, with supporting women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

In Our Heads About Our Hair

 Reel Sisters 2011

The Reel Sisters Film Festival is coming up this month and finally our film In Our Heads About Our Hair will be screened in its full length!  We are very excited about the screening of our film, but saddened to tell you that all 320 seats have been taken.  However, if you were shot to be in our film, please call us if you did not RSVP for a ticket.  Some RSVP's don't show and though we can't promise anything, we can place you on a priority waiting list. For those of you who will be unable to see the film this time, fear not. We are planning another screening in the near future, as well as sales of the DVD online.   We will keep you posted on both of these.  In Our Heads About Our Hair will screen on Saturday, October 15th at 9pm at the Kumble Theater on the downtown Brooklyn campus of Long Island University.

Our Grand OpeningRock and Grand Opening
Henry Rock doing his version of Saba -
Our Grand Opening was so beautiful!  There were longtime clients, newbies, great friends and those who just wanted a look-see.  The highlight of the night was Senegalese drumming and dancing, where the drums talked and the bodies responded.  Fatoumata, Awa and Khady joined the professional on the floor. So did some others, like Ptahra Jeppe, Doc Henry Rock and Doc Hollywood, who blew the crowd away with his moves! The tasty morsels and grape-induced libations were provided by Marcia Cole of AmberMag.com.  I was in my element: hair did, makeup sparkly and an African-print dress with
flare. Chatting and hamming it up with guests was so much fun!  Thank you to all who joined us.  We give Thanks for this new location and Thank you all for blessing our space!  Click here to see the video of our Grand Opening
Does Your Bra Fit???

Iris Lingerie

We found out that a very special bra store is on our block and owned by a sister named Iris Clark of Iris Lingerie. Iris states that 85% of women wear the wrong size bra and she can transform your shape when you're properly fitted with the right bra. Not only do her bras have great function, all of the lingerie is gorgeous and sexy!  Iris became a client straight away and I'm loving it down at her place too. Check out Iris Lingerie.
