Stepping Into Spring - April 2011

I'm a believer in Spring and all the wonderful things it brings with it, such as that vibrant and lovely shade of green that celebrates rebirth, the scent of flowers in the air, a feeling of promise for the future and the inspiration to love. This month I salute one of the great loves of my life, an intoxicating scent and some artistic adornments. I also share my joy at being involved in three wonderful events: two at the salon and one off-site at which I was privileged to be honored. (Take a minute to follow the link to some fun pics featuring some of my fellow honorees at this unique and fabulous gathering.)

A Mile In Her Shoes

As I mentioned last month, I was honored for my contribution to the community at an event called 'A Mile In Her Shoes."  I was astounded to find that I had been included in the company of so many illustrious women who have an impact on our communities.  Check out this link of shoes, honorees and guests.

New Jewelry  for U
Mickey Lynn
Spring is here, Yay-yehhh! And there's nothing like a little sparkle to set spring off. So the next time you're in the salon, please take a look at our new lines of jewelry. And feel free to drop by even if you aren't having your hair done to see what we've got that's hot! When you're thinking of treating someone to a special birthday gift, remember our lovely offerings. And with Mother's Day right around the corner, we've got just the gift for that special mom, even if that Mom is you.

Sultry Body Butter
Sultry Body Butter
Sometimes a good thing can get even better and the proof is in our Sultry Body Butter. Just in time for spring, our new Sultry is formulated using botanical ingredients of rose concrete, with a hint of patchouli and amyris (West Indian Sandalwood) essentials oils. The patchouli and amyris are in the background so that the rose is the prominent scent. It's soft and subtle like true rose should be. So the next time you're in, please take a sniff and ask for a sample to try it out.

On another note we will be discontinuing Heavenly, Pink Petals and Big Papa. These items will be available at a discounted price in the salon during the month of April.   Call the salon for details.  Anu Essentials
Curls Meet Up
Curl Meet Up

Guest at Curls Meet-up

The Curls product company had a Meet-up at Khamit Kinks near the end of March and it was so much fun! Sisters were here in full force to mingle and to see demonstrations on curl definition and on making kinks curl naturally!

There were cupcakes of course (the new/ old popular dessert) yummy cocktails, creative exchange, gift bags and lots of fun. The Curls team was upbeat, fun and brought along an incredibly gifted Henna artist. We had so much fun! Love Curls! See other pics from our

Curls Meet-Up here.

The Other Sister

You know you can't big-up one sister without talking about the other.  In last month's newsletter I shared a story about my younger sister Linda.  And now I'd like to introduce you to my older sister Maat Kesa (affectionately known as MK).  MK  is like my twin sister. My relationship with MK is very special because while we are sisters, we don't share the same blood and bones.  We weren't born of the same physical family, but as kindred spirits, we could not be closer or more connected - Read More

Is DIY Going Too Far?

Locs

Last week I was amazed not only by the number of clients who came in for consultations that needed a trim/cut, but also by how many of them mentioned to me that they cut their own hair. Come again??? You do what? Cut your own hair, come on now!

The DIY movement in natural hair has just gone too far. For those of you who may not know, DIY means 'Do It Yourself'. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see so many sisters taking the plunge, going natural and making the necessary - Read more of DIY
