We're calling this our "Green Issue," because there's no getting around the fact that we're all experiencing severe climate change. The decisions we make about our lives - about what we drink, eat, use for energy, and yes, even what we do to our hair, has an effect on the planet, and ultimately, ourselves and our future.
So read on and see what you can learn, what you can contribute, and how we can all make a difference.

I
had been battling with what I was referring to as unexplainable weight
gain. Seems it is explainable after all. I've made some important
changes and now I am half-way to the goal of my ideal weight. See how
I'm doing it. Anu's Essentials

Wacky Weather Last month I commented on the "whacky weather." Now things have gone from whacky to frightening. In my 52 years here on the planet I have never experienced a June where it rained nearly every day! There's definitely something amiss and ignoring it will not make it go away.
As an avid gardener, I am especially tuned into the weather. My garden is drowning. And it seems we all have our heads in the sand not really considering the ramifications of what's going on. What does this have to do with hair, you may ask? Everything! Our hair is an extension (no pun intended) of us, we are an extension of the planet, and the planet is sadly out of balance.
We do have the power to turn this around; each one of us has a tremendous influence on every aspect of life, including the thriving of the planet. Check out these award winning, excellent films and get inspired to do something, something as simple is refusing to buy bottled water!

Provocative Insights
Be sure to catch Jasmine Murrell's compelling exhibition at Center for Arts and Culture Skylight Gallery. "Provocative Insights" is a multi-media retrospective from several series: "Forbidden Foods," exploring maturity, guilt, sexuality and their historical association with food, "Finding Home," examining the wide range of meaning of "home," and "The Hoods," about how the exaltation of negative images has overshadowed self-validation in our community. The Skylight is at 1368 Fulton Street, 3rd floor. (A train to Nostrand Ave.) For Info call Jacqui Woods: 718-636-6949. Support our visual artists; their work brings pleasure and communicates nonverbally, enhancing our wisdom and creative faculties.

A note from Green Advocate and Khamit Kinks client Majora Carter
Many injustices are imposed from the outside, but before too long, they are repeated on the inside in subtle ways. Black folks are disproportionately impacted by toxins from power plants, truck routes, highways and sewage treatment plants in and near our communities. But we are often guilty of subjecting ourselves to many toxins as well, when we put horrible stuff on (and in) our bodies. These products have a negative impact on the environment and on our health.
If Black women committed to using chemical-free hair products, we could reduce toxins from entering our waterways and have healthier hair. If we ate healthier, more local, and less processed food, we would see a difference in the quality of our hair and health. This is a powerful way to use your money in support of what you believe in.
Sound familiar? It should, it was the premise of the Montgomery bus boycotts. When we are taking care of our lives and the well-being of others, our hair will be just fine. Majora Carter Group 1
