VLA Quote of the Day

"To know how to grow old is the master work of wisdom, and one of the most difficult chapters in the great art of living."
-Herman Melville

CLASS FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS AT DOCRACY, IN DUMBO
VLA offered a class on legal issues for photographers, kindly hosted by Docarcy
on July 17, 2012. Thanks to all attendees and to Docracy!

Greetings!

July was another busy month at Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. Highlights included two great Legal & Business Issues for Photographers classes (one in Dumbo and one in Hudson, NY), and a free legal clinic!

VLA would like to give our warmest thanks to Docracy for hosting our class for photographers, and to Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP for hosting our legal clinic. We would also like to thank Gibney Dance for hosting a presentation by Elena Paul at The Greenroom, and  Legal Outreach for hosting Ben Brandow's entertainment law class at the Summer Law Institute.

VLA kicks off August with our Forming Your For-Profits Arts Business course on August 9 at 4PM. This workshop provides valuable information about starting an arts-related business.

Are you an attorney interested in volunteering with VLA? If so, make sure to attend one of our new Volunteer Attorney Orientations this month, held on August 6 at 6PM and August 22 at 1PM. For more information about these orientation sessions, please click here

Finally, the beginning of August also brings with it the departure of our wonderful and amazing summer associates; we at VLA are sad to see them leave. VLA would like to thank Dani Johnson, Elsie Morales, Aly O'Desky, Erin Ross, and Courtney Stone for their hard work and dedication. We wish them a productive and successful school year. We would also like to give a big warm welcome to Samuel Madden and Sarah Woodby, our two newest legal interns who joined VLA at the end of July.

Last, but not least, VLA's office will be closed from August 13-17, 2012. We will return to regular business hours on Monday, August 20, 2012.

Best,
