Greetings!
VLA hopes that you had a great first month of 2012 and have managed to accomplish or stick with most of your New Year's resolutions!
Highlights from January included our MediateArt Training Program - which was very generously hosted by Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP (thank you Orrick!) - as well as the arrival of our Spring semester legal interns from Fordham, Cardozo, St. John's, Hofstra, and Columbia law schools, our Spring Intern Blaise Niosi, and our 2012 Art and Law Residents. Welcome all! VLA would also like to extend its warm thanks to the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute for providing us with a tour of its exhibition on Joaquín Sorolla and the Glory of Spanish Dress.
This February, VLA celebrates the loveliest of holidays with a Valentine's Day Party and Trunk Show on Thursday, February 9 from 6-8PM. Please join us and several New York-based jewelry and accessory designers in the lobby below our offices at 1 East 53rd Street for an evening of heartwarming music, drinks, and fashion.
It may be chilly outside for a while longer, but VLA will be heating up the month with some great legal education courses. If you have ever considered directing your epicurean instincts in an entrepreneurial direction, VLA and the Friends of the French Culinary Institute (FCI) present a course on Starting Your Culinary Business on February 7 from 4:30-7PM. (Proceeds from this course will benefit Friends of FCI, which is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization.) On February 16 from 4-6:30PM, VLA hosts its Legal Issues in Film course (eligible for CLE credit). And on February 24 from 9AM-4:30PM, Herrick, Feinstein hosts VLA's all-day Bootcamp for Arts Professionals (eligible for CLE credit). VLA would like to thank its Bootcamp co-sponsors: Arts Council of Rockland; Dance Film Association; Dance NYC, a Branch of Dance/USA; Fractured Atlas; and Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance.
Looking toward the end of the month and beyond, VLA is co-sponsoring the Fashioning our Industry conference for NYC-based fashion, law, branding, and finance professionals on February 28 from 9AM-5PM, which includes a panel featuring VLA Executive Director Elena M. Paul, Esq. We also would like to remind interested participants that registration is now open for the Spring 2012 Law School for Visual Artists, which will be conducted in March and April.
Best,
