One Less Car advocates for providing
safe and effective transportation alternatives for all citizens through
education, lobbying, and facilitation between our communities, governments, and
state and local representatives. The organization is working to make
Maryland an example of the economic and social good that comes from a society
where everyone - regardless of age, physical condition or economic background -
has the opportunity to bike, walk or use mass transit to get where they need to
go.
BMore
Streets for People - Get Involved! Four
years ago the City of Baltimore conceived a Master Bike Plan. Among its
components is the periodic closing of selected streets, for a morning, for
exclusive use by pedestrians, cyclists and skaters. Many cities are
organizing these types of events. Last October, the City and the Roland
Park Civic League carried out a successful field test, and approximately 1,000
Baltimoreans participated. In December, ten City Council members co-sponsored a
resolution calling on the City to implement a broader plan, named "BMore
Streets for People." One
Less Car is currently recruiting volunteers to make this plan a reality - this
is an opportunity to make Baltimore an amazing, unique environment and they need
your involvement! To learn more, contact Mike McQuestion (443-912-7655
or mike.mcquestion@gmail.com) or Frank Pratka at 410-262-8818.
Next Meeting: April 6th, 7-8:30PM, at the
Greater Homewood Community Corporation, 3503 N. Charles St.
Learn more about how you can get involved with One Less Car.
