Hockley Happenings
|
Hockley has a new horse staying with them for a trial period. His name is Charlie and he came to SIRE from Corpus Christi. His owner is a Marine Corp. Lt. fighter pilot who has a special interest in SIRE's efforts to help veterans. Charlie has settled in nicely and is showing promise as a therapy horse.
Charlie
Hockley's truck was washed away during the heavy rains and floods on July 12th. Luckily no one was injured but the truck was a total loss.
The search is on for a one ton dually to replace their truck. This is a critical need to pull SIRE's trailer so Hockley riders can compete at events such as Top Hands and Special Olympics and to also get horses to the vet clinic when needed. Hockley has been the recipient of many gracious offers of help with trailering while they are without a truck.
Uh Oh . . .
The Hockley barn has new shutters on its windows to protect the horses during bad weather. Many thanks Keith O'Connor, Daniel Murray, Robert Somma and AJ Patterson for their hard work on this project!

Spring Barn Bits
|
Spring had a record number of riders for their Summer semester. We had thirty nine riders participating in seventeen classes. We held classes Monday and Thursday evenings and Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings. Many thanks to our hard working volunteers who made this semester such a success!
Matthew Daponte, brother of Spring rider George Daponte, has chosen to do something for SIRE for his Boy Scout project. Matthew is starting our sensory trail by having a tree service cut down and chip about twenty dead trees. The Boy Scouts will then spread the chips on a mapped out path in the woods. SIRE will take on the project from there. We would like to replace the old bridge, expand the horse wash and add more sensory stations. If you or someone you know has construction skills and would like to help out please contact Shayna Bolton or Kathy Bigelow.

Matching Company Donations
|
As a benefit, many companies will match a donation that their employees make to the charity of their choice. If your company is one that does this, we would love the opportunity to send information to them or even do a presentation at your work. If your friends and colleagues at work already contribute to a "matching funds" program, they may be interested in contributing to SIRE, especially if they know you benefit from the program personally. It brings the connection closer. Please email Andi Fry, the Chair of the Friends and Family Committee, at andifry@aol.com about your employers "matching funds" program.
