Happy Holidays from SIRE |
Non profits represent a statement that we want the world to be a better place. Non profits are the embodiment of good intentions, recognizing that the world is big enough and troubled enough that not one of us can address all the needs we see. Each of us has to choose how much to get involved and where to get involved. Like many, our family gives to charity. Each year we set a budget for how much we're going to give. We track donations over the course of the year, and between Thanksgiving and Christmas we sit down as a family and measure our progress. Then we donate the remainder of our budget to a host of good causes. The list of charities we support is really a statement of our family values. Look down the list of charities you support and it speaks to who you are and what kind of difference you want to see in the world. By making our giving intentional and talking about it, we not only make a difference, we pass our values on to our children through our actions.
Blessings to you and your family during the coming New Year
from our family here at SIRE ~ Jimm Williams, Executive Director

S P O T L I G H T ON . . . M O L L Y S W E E N E Y
We wanted to share with everyone that Molly Sweeney was selected by NARHA for the James Brady Professional Achievement Award. This is the highest honor that NARHA awards each year, and one that Molly well deserves. With her contributions at the national level for NARHA and the Horses and Humans Research Foundation, she has changed the industry.
The nomination was a joint effort by KC Henry of HHRF and Joelle Devlin of SIRE. The photo above shows Molly, KC and Joelle at the recent NARHA National Convention. WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU MOLLY, AND THANKFUL FOR YOUR INCREDIBLE DEDICATION AND EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF HORSES AND HUMANS! | |

HOUSTONIANS HELP SIRE AT THE ANNUAL TRAILBLAZER LUNCHEON
Nearly 300 people packed into The Courtyard on St. James for this year's Trailblazer Luncheon. President of the SIRE Board of Directors Mike Dillingham, Executive Director Jimm Williams, and Advisory Board member Johnny Mancuso provided the audience with background on Houston's Therapeutic Riding Centers and the positive impact of therapeutic riding on physical and cognitive abilities. Guests also previewed SIRE's newest video filmed at Sienna Stables and heard a testimonial from Susan Zimmerman about how SIRE has enriched her family's lives. The luncheon was free to guests and served as a fund raising event with no minimum donation required. Many thanks to all who attended! While turn-out for the event was substantial, we still are seeking funds to ensure that our programs continue to provide the best possible services for a reasonable cost of tuition. Your continued support is appreciated!! |

Share Your Smile - Join our team of dedicated volunteers
and help our special horseback riders mount up
and leave their disabilities on the ground.
"SIRE is a place where all your troubles disappear and it's just you, the horse and the rider. You don't have to worry about judgment - no one is looking for anything that is wrong, just what is right! When I was a new volunteer, I was scared stiff but everyone is so friendly and everyone kinda becomes family."
explains 16-year-old volunteer Krista Wilkinson.
We're looking for volunteers to help in our spring semester classes. Those interested in learning more on how to volunteer with SIRE can sign up for orientation on Wednesday, January 5th at 6:00 PM and training on January 8th at 8:00 AM at all sites. SIRE, Houston's Therapeutic Equestrian Centers provides therapeutic horseback riding to children and adults with disabilities. Horse experience is not required. SIRE has locations in the Magnolia/Waller area, Spring/1960 area, and in Sienna Plantation in Fort Bend County.
