We are seeking your input, guidance and
feedback on a revision of AEA's bylaws, on or before Friday, April 16, 2010.
The
AEA Board of Directors has been working to revise the association's Bylaws, the
legal document that binds the association. The revision was undertaken with
three goals in mind:
- Align with Policy-based
Governance and Current Practice: Policy-based Governance mandates that the Board
develop, and continuously and systematically revisit, an extensive set of
policies that guide the association's work. Such policies detail roles,
restrictions, and goals for the association. Our current set of policies
may be found here http://www.eval.org/policies.asp.
- Increase Flexibility: Given policies that are
continuously refined based on the changing context and needs of the
association, we strove to remove from the bylaws (and move to policies)
structures that we believe benefit from increased flexibility. The most
notable example of this is moving a specific list of committees out of the
Bylaws.
- Streamline and Clarify
Language: We
sought to make the Bylaws as readable as possible and remove redundancies.
The
bylaws revision process involves four stages as outlined below.
- Board: Complete draft of
bylaws revision and approve for member vetting (done - March 5, 2010)
- Members: Review draft and
provide comment (March - April 16, 2010)
- Board: Revise draft based on
member comments and approve for member vote (April - May, 2010)
- Members: Vote on final draft
(June - July, 2010)
We
have completed stage 1 and are now turning to the membership for guidance and
feedback.
