Over the next month, we have:

  • Four demonstrations as part of our Coffee Break Demonstration Series - these free, short 20-minute webinars introduce a tool or process used by your evaluation colleagues and give you insight regarding where and how to learn more (be sure to use the links below to pre-register).
  • Ricardo Millettt sharing his expertise via the Thought Leaders Discussion Series - this series connects thought leaders in our field with AEA members, new and old alike, via the online President's Forum. Subscribe to the forum and check back throughout the week to ask questions or just read the exchange (see the schedule below for more information).
  • Thirty new contributions to the AEA365 blog - our new blog highlights a tip-a-day from and for evaluators, you can read the postings to date, subscribe, and add your comments at http://aea365.org/blog/
  • Delivery of the Call for Proposals - mark your calendars and stay tuned next week to receive the Call for Proposals for the AEA Annual Conference to be held November 8-13 in San Antonio, Texas. Proposals will be due on or before March 19, 2010.

  • Coffee Break Demonstration: Tuesday, January 26, 2:00-2:20 PM EST Leslie Goodyear - Using Many Eyes for Data Visualization

    Looking for ways to visualize your evaluation data? The ManyEyes data visualization website may be just the tool for you! Leslie Goodyear is a Program Officer with the National Science Foundation on loan from the Education Development Center in Newton, MA. She'll be demonstrating the basic capabilities of Many Eyes (http://manyeyes.alphaworks.ibm.com/manyeyes/), a free online data visualization tool that can help to produce representations of both qualitative and quantitative data sets. You'll learn about the product's capabilities, see examples, and gain enough information to determine whether to explore further on your own given the resource links provided a the end.

  • Coffee Break Demonstration: Thursday, February 4, 2:00-2:20 PM EST:  Submitting an AEA Conference Proposal - Susan Kistler
    Audience:
    Those who have not submitted an AEA conference proposal before or who had significant questions while doing so
    Description: Want to share your knowledge, skills, or lessons learned via a presentation at the AEA Conference but not sure how to get started? AEA Executive Director Susan Kistler will walk you through how to prepare for and submit a proposal to present at Evaluation 2010 including choosing the best presentation format, preparing and focusing your proposal, identifying an appropriate reviewing group, and tips for success. We'll walk through an example proposal submission form online and have an opportunity for questions as well.

  • Thought Leaders: Week of February 7-13, 2010: Ricardo Millett
    Ricardo Millett is an independent evaluation consultant, a veteran philanthropist, Board member at the Center for Effective Philanthropy, former President of the Woods Fund of Chicago, and former Director of Evaluation at the WK Kellogg Foundation. Millett has been a consistent and prominent voice on issues of diversity and the intersection of evaluation, philanthropy, and social justice. As a senior consultant to the Diversity in Philanthropy Project (DPP), he was the primary author of a recent DPP Case Study on Evaluation With a Diversity Lens: Exploring Its Functions and Utility to Inform Philanthropic Effectiveness. Millett's commitment to making evaluation practical, useful, and integrated with programs has formed a cornerstone of his 40 years of work in the field.
