Call for Nominations for

AEA Conference Chair 2009-2011

Deadline: February 1, 2008

As you may have seen in the most recent issue of the American Journal of Evaluation, the American Evaluation Association invites nominations for the position of AEA Conference Chair for the Annual Meeting for the years 2009 through 2011. The Conference Chair is appointed by the AEA Board of Directors and is the lead volunteer for the Meeting, which is attended by over 2000 professionals each year. The Annual Meeting is AEA's premiere event, showcasing new and noteworthy work in the field and providing opportunities for professional development and collegial networking.

The primary responsibility of the Conference Chair is to serve as chair of the Conference Policy Committee, which is charged with planning the long-term direction for the Annual Meeting. The Conference Chair is an ex-officio member of the AEA Board of Directors who may attend Board meetings. As needed, the Conference Chair acts as liaison to the membership regarding conference issues, responding to member concerns directly or through the Conference Committee as appropriate.

AEA has transitioned from a volunteer-run conference to one in which logistics and administration are handled by the AEA office while policy-making is the purview of the Conference Chair and Conference Committee. Although the work varies considerably throughout the year, it is estimated that it will average approximately one hour per week with additional time needed the week before and the week of the conference.

We are seeking nominations at this time so that the appointed Conference Chair may apprentice under the 2008 Conference Chair during the coming year. Conference registration and accommodations will be paid for the Conference Chair for the 2009 through 20011 conferences, and it is an expectation of the position that the Conference Chair will attend the conference in 2008-2011 (the first year as an apprentice).

The ideal candidate would be accessible throughout the year via email or phone and have:

  1. Knowledge of the workings of the AEA annual conference,

  2. A history of attendance at a range of professional meetings,

  3. Knowledge of the breadth and depth of the field,

  4. Knowledge of the breadth and depth of the association,

  5. Familiarity with current issues related to conference planning such as peer-review, professional development for evaluators, and inclusion across a diverse membership.

Please email, by February 1, 2008, (a) a vita or resume and (b) a letter of nomination (self-nominations welcome), indicating relevant experience and background of the nominee in terms of each of the five criteria in the numbered list above, as well as any other qualifications you believe to be relevant to the position, to: susan@eval.org with a subject line of "Conference Chair Nomination." If you are nominating someone, please be sure that the nominee knows of his or her nomination. Do not send nominations without the nominee's knowledge. Candidates will learn of the status of their nomination by March 15, 2008

If you have questions about this position, please do not hesitate to contact me,
