Develop 'The Day Before Vacation' Mindset
Think
about the last time you went on vacation. Maybe you went to the beach, on a
cruise or traveled abroad. But before you get caught up in those wonderful
memories of your trip or feel sorry for yourself because you won't be going on
vacation again until next year, think about the last day or two before you
left. If you are like most people, you were focused, organized and very
productive. You decided whether something needed to be done before you left and tackled
those high-priority tasks with gusto. You delegated tasks for other people to
do while you were away, had your suitcase packed and were ready to go at the
scheduled time (especially if you had a flight to catch). It's amazing what we
can accomplish when we have limited time and something fun to look forward to.
Just
think how your work and personal life could benefit from having that "vacation bound" mindset more often.
You'd be energized, efficient and 100 % focused, and then be able to relax or do
something fun because you are not worried about things on your to-do list.

Take A Vacation
Decide on a block of time that you will approach with 'the day before vacation' mindset. It can be a typical morning at work or a weekend when you want to get things done around the house. Decide ahead of time exactly what you want to accomplish and the amount of time that you will set aside to complete it (be realistic). When the scheduled time arrives, don't allow yourself to procrastinate. Get busy and stay 100% focused on the task at hand without getting distracted by checking email, answering phone calls, playing computer games or the many other things that usually get in the way. With this approach, you will accomplish more than you ever imagined. And be sure to have something fun or relaxing planned to do once you get the job done! A massage, lunch with a friend or a family hike can be just as energizing as that long awaited vacation!
