On the first Friday of May each year, we feature our graduates at our annual Career Day program.  "At one time we invited our school parents to speak to the children," said eighth grade teacher Maureen McDonagh, "but we soon realized there were even more advantages by utilizing our alumni."  Sixth grade teacher Claudia Cassells went onto add "There is something that resonates with our children when they realize the speaker before them sat in their desks, studied from the same textbooks, and had similar expectations in terms of studies, discipline, and religion."

Dear Parents, Alums, and Friends of Ss. Peter & Paul School:

While attending the final all school Mass of the year on May 29, one could understand if the children were a little anxious and perhaps, not paying as much attention as usual.  The reason for their antsiness was undoubtedly the excitement of anticipating the beginning of their summer vacation.  While students flashed some of their biggest smiles of the year, there were a few adults who were fighting back tears and dealing with a much different emotion.  No, it wasn't an assortment of parents cringing at the thought of keeping their offspring entertained for the next ten weeks.  Rather, it was three members of our staff who were retiring.

Leaving Ss. Peter & Paul School with a combined 68 years of service are Linda Loukota, school secretary since 1987, Nancy Fey, Spanish teacher since 1983, and Maria Briones, Music teacher and liturgist, also since 1983.  read more

Teachers and Staff Honored at Dinner Dance For Milestone Anniversaries

If there is any common denominator during our school's 150 year plus history, it is that a school is only as good as its teachers.  Textbooks, facilities, policies, and programs are all necessary and important, but you simply can't have a good school without good teachers.  That lesson is certainly underscored by the tremendous contributions each of this year's honorees have made to Ss. Peter & Paul School during their professional tenure.

Each spring, our Dinner Dance affords us the opportunity to recognize, among others, the members of our faculty and support staff that is celebrating milestone anniversaries at Ss. Peter & Paul School.  Applauded for their service to our school this past April were:

Dave Schmecht -
Physical Education teacher & Recess Coordinator for thirty years
Penny Schur - Librarian and Jr. High Language Arts teacher for fifteen years
Jackie Saul - Jr. High Math teacher & Math Club Moderator for ten years
Ruthy Cooper O'Malley '85 - Elementary Technology, Project Discover teacher and Cheerleading Moderator for ten years
Becky Ondracek - Third Grade teacher & Testing Coordinator for five years
Kent Schielke - Jr. High Science teacher & Science Olympiad Moderator for five years

Leadership Boards Face Big Challenges

Board Members
Among those rRecognized at the Annual Dinner Dance for their volunteer service were: Seated (L-R): John Scanlon, Terese Surges  Standing(L-R): Ed Graham, Dave Wilson, Jeff Shay, John Pcolinski  Missing:  Mary Nemetz, Dennis Ainger, Jim Dvorchak, Cate Rixie,

Replacing members can be a challenge for any organization.  Losing officers can be overwhelming.  Yet that is the reality facing our school next fall.  While passing out recognition plaques at this year's Dinner Dance, pastor Fr. Thomas Milota noted that there were three outgoing presidents among the ten members from the school's four leadership boards whose terms expired in June.  Included were Terese Surges of the Home & School, John Scanlon of the School Board, and Mary Nemetz from the Development Board.  When one considers that the H&S also lost their treasurer (Cate Rixie), the DB must also replace its vice-president (John Pcolinski), and that the Athletic Association will also have a new president even though John Larson remains on the board, the chances of a smooth transition for any of these groups appears rather slim.

Fortunately, in this case looks indeed are deceiving. read more
