Word
of the Month

PONDER

Derivation: The root of ponder is the Latin pondus, "weight," and was used to determine the value of something. This evolved into ponderare, which had the added meaning of "to reflect upon." Ponder entered English in the 13th century as ponderen, meaning "to reckon; to calculate." Many of these meanings are still present in the word's modern usage.

Definition: Ponder means "to consider a matter carefully, thoughtfully, and with deliberation; to think over or contemplate."
