8 Tips for Recharging Your Creativity
| | Twin brothers Paul and Peter H. Reynolds offer the following tips for embarking upon a creative learning journey. Relax with a cup of tea and consider trying these today!
- Articulate your mission. Write it down. Share it. Review it.
- Take time to ponder. Where are you going? Or, a better question: Where do you WANT to be going?
- Imagine your classroom as a studio, as a research center, as a publishing house.
- Share the drive.
Like any long road trip, share the wheel. You don't always have to know where an activity is going. Just enjoy the ride. Allow yourself to be surprised. Students are especially engaged when they see you are too! - Novelty. Shake things up. Make it new.
It can be as simple as turning off the lights or playing a modern piece of music to introduce Shakespeare. Research supports the idea that novelty is a long-term memory booster. - Search for personal meaning.
Provide context and essence before you launch into the details. Connect with a learner's interests, dreams, and unique skills. - Encourage strategies for personal achievement.
Allow for multiple approaches to a project. Provide time for students to vision their own futures and explore what they'll need to make them real. - Love what you do. Do what you love.
Love, love, love, love your kids. It's a gift they'll carry with them for the rest of their lives. Fuel for the journey!
These tips were selected from "17 Tips for a Creative, Lifelong Learning Journey" - you can read the rest of our creativity tips at our blog! |

Words And Their Stories™: Word of the Month |
Investigate
Derivation: Investigate comes from the Latin noun vestigium, meaning "a footprint or track." Throughout history, hunters from all regions have caught game by following an animal's footprints or using dogs to track an animal's scent. Over time, investigate has acquired a much broader definition, yet it still implies the same sort of systematic thoroughness exhibited by a hound dog in pursuit of its quarry. Definition: Investigate means "to examine in detail; to inquire into systematically, especially to find a motive, cause, or culprit."
Help your grades 5-12 students learn the stories behind words. Check out a FREE trial of our award-winning vocabulary program for grades 5-12 - choose between the Words And Their Stories: Single Student version or the Words And Their Stories: Classroom version.
