FableFriends,
Every year at Thanksgiving, we love gathering at the table to re-connect with friends and family. We wish there was a table SO big that we could invite all of you to join us and then thank you in person! We provide products and workshops to help you inspire your students. But it's you who offers students what they really need. You find the spark in every student, just waiting to be kindled. Every day, you invite your students to the table, asking them to share their unique perspectives, their hidden talents, what makes their hearts soar. . . As a gesture of our appreciation for all you do, we are making a rare special offer: Now through the end of the year (as supplies last), every shippable order over $35 will ship with a FREE SmartMoves™ Home Edition DVD. Scroll down for details. Also, here's something to help grades K-5 students express their gratitude: a free, downloadable Stationery Studio "Thanks for the Help" writing activity. Enjoy! We're grateful for this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to you. We hope you have a wonderful holiday!

(and Paul & your FableVision Learning friends)

City of Boston's Community Learning Initiative (CLI) and FableVision Launch Live Wire Digital Storytelling Contest | | The City of Boston's Live Wire Learning Community Project has announced its 1st Annual Live Wire Video Contest, which will recognize student and teacher-created digital storytelling that promotes the concept of "community learning." The Live Wire project and contest are part of Mayor Thomas Menino's Community Learning Initiative (CLI), a multi-departmental effort between Boston Centers for Youth & Families, Boston Public Schools, and the Boston Public Library to create a "high-voltage" physical and virtual community network that supports youth in reaching their full potential. Details of the contest will be announced in November, but there will be multiple winning categories (youth and adults), celebrity judges, and a gala award ceremony at Boston's Strand Theater early next year.
Stay tuned for more contest details at the official website of the Live Wire Learning Community Project! |
Guess Who? | | Last Friday, the FableVision Learning team met up with friends at the Reynolds' The Blue Bunny Books & Toys shop in Dedham, MA. We kicked off the Halloween weekend in style, with fun costumes, delicious treats, and creative crafts. Among the variety of characters and creatures, an appearance was made by the Mad Hatter (who sure sounded a lot like Peter H. Reynolds)! The festivities were enjoyed by kids and adults alike. If you're in the area next year, make sure you join in the fun!

Words And Their Stories™: Word of the Month
|
Festival The word festival derives from the Latin festivus, meaning "feast," and feriae, meaning "holidays." During the Middle Ages all the official feast days and holidays ("holy days") were organized around the church calendar, honoring specific Christian events, such as Christmas and Easter. Over time, festival developed a more general meaning, but it has kept its ties to special events that pay tribute to something or someone. Now you know that festival means "a day or period of celebration; a concentrated series of films, concerts, or plays held regularly; related to or suitable for a feast."
Help your grades 5-12 students learn the stories behind words. Check out a FREE trial of Words And Their Stories (formerly Get A Clue), our award-winning web-based vocabulary program.
