Heidi Hall, one of our fabulous Fable interns and a former preschool teacher, made a wonderfully imaginative game for us - well, she actually made it for you! Inspired by Peter H. Accolade comes from the French accoler, meaning "to embrace," which has its origins in the Italian verb accollare, meaning "to embrace around the neck." When a soldier was made a knight, part of the ceremony involved this act of embracing him around the neck. Today, accolade does not refer to a literal embracing around the neck, but to what this embrace represents. Now you know that accolade means "an expression of approval; a special acknowledgment, honor, or award; to praise."
