Peter H. Reynolds Art - Girl with BalloonsCan it be? Another school year just about wrapped up? We know it was a LOT of challenging work, and we empathize with you!

Speaking of empathy, that's our Words And Their Stories™ (WATS) "Cool Word of the Month." As you probably know, WATS is our patented system for getting kids to "dive deeper" into words. You also probably know that I am on a mission to get EVERYONE - young and old - to "make their mark." Part of that mission is reminding everyone that the more words we know, the better we will be able to articulate our ideas, our dreams, our mission, who we are, and who we hope to become. Print out and share a few "Empathy" posters. This is one of my all-time favorite words.

On behalf of the growing FableVision Learning Team and all our FVL Ambassadors across the country, we wish you and those around you a wonderfully CREATIVE summer!

It has been an honor and pleasure to share the 2009/2010 journey with you.

Empathy

Empathy
features the prefix en ("in; into; within") combined with the Greek word pathos, which means "passion; feeling." Often the word sympathy is incorrectly used in place of empathy because they share a common root. However, the Greek prefix sym derives from the Greek sun ("like; similar"). So, if empathy suggests "within feeling," sympathy suggests a "similar feeling." Now you know that empathy means "understanding of another's feelings; identification of another's motives."

Help your grades 5-12 students learn the stories behind words. Check out a FREE trial of Words And Their Stories (formerly Get A Clue), our award-winning web-based vocabulary program.
