September 2009
Welcome back!,Best Year Yet

The new school year is already in full swing for many of you! Students (and perhaps you!) are filled with excitement, hope, curiosity, energy. . . and yes, nervousness and even a dash of fear.

Starting something new CAN be a little scary, like making that first mark on a blank page. As my character Vashti did in The Dot, I encourage you to make your mark and see where it takes you.

Our mission is to cheer you on throughout the year! We love "Live Wire" educators who are full of energy and ideas, but we know that it is easy to burn out trying to be innovative and creative. Hopefully my books will help "recharge your batteries," and our tools will make it easier to do the magic that you do daily - inspiring kids to navigate their true potential.

I have a great feeling about this year. Working together, we can make this the best year yet! Speaking of which, I created a new poster (scroll down) - my gift to you to salute the start of a new school year.

Your friend on the creative journey,

Peter

Calling all Live Wire Educators!
LIve Wire Schools ProgramThe Challenge: Developing Skills That Matter

Writing, creativity, and self-expression are essential skills for all students. These skills are critical to their future and also to the future of our nation. Integrating these 21st Century skills into the curriculum is imperative.

The Solution: Live Wire Schools That Power Up 21st Century Teaching & Learning

Our new Live Wire Schools™ Program provides the educational software, professional development, and support needed to transform your classrooms.

Focus: Create an optimal learning environment by reducing stress and improving each learner's ability to focus.

Writing: Help all learners develop essential writing and self-expression skills, and inspire even the most reluctant writer.

Creativity: Engage students, cultivate imagination, and integrate creativity across the curriculum.

Self-Expression: Support technology literacy skills that enable students to collaborate, tell their story, and "show what they know."

Digital Storytelling
We are proud to present Using The Grey Ghost in the Classroom, an animated film based on the book The Grey Ghost by children's author Julie Hahnke. The film demonstrates the use of storytelling and animation to bring curriculum topics to life.

The animated film was developed by Adam Ziskie and Brad Matarazzo, two talented interns at FableVision Learning, who worked closely with Julie Hahnke. All animations were created with FableVision Learning's Animation-ish™.

GET A CLUE® Spotlight Word of the Month

Rejuvenate

The word "rejuvenate" comes from the Latin prefix re ("again") and the root juvenis, meaning "young." The Latin verb rejuvenescere logically means "to make young again," and this is not far from the modern definition of rejuvenate. But, if something has aged, how can we "make" it "young again"?

Help your students learn the stories behind the words.  To get your FREE trial  of GET A CLUE, our award-winning web-based vocabulary program, click here.
