LIVING PEACE RETREAT: February 4 - 9       

Santa Cruz RedwoodsThe Living Peace retreat is a perfect way to immerse yourself in the beauty of NVC community. The retreat typically draws participants with considerable NVC experience who want to bring their understanding and proficiency to a new level, and also those who are new to NVC and want to immerse themselves in NVC skills and consciousness. Each day provides plenty of time to work in small groups and to receive one-on-one coaching around the issues that matter most to you. Register

The Power of Cultivating Collaborative Leadership

Miki KashtanNick (not his real name), CEO of a privately owned company, identified listening to others as one key area of learning for him. As we explored this challenge, we soon realized that truly opening to hearing others would require overcoming a habit of distancing and separating himself from people whom he perceived to be different. I offered him one of my personal practices: looking for 3-5 things I have in common with someone I experience as different and separate from me. Nick immediately thought of Dick Cheney as an exception, someone with whom he really didn't have anything in common. I challenged him on this belief, and he succeeded in identifying several qualities they shared, the last of which was this statement: "We both like power." What did power mean to Nick? The entire six-member BayNVC Connection Project Team was present at the candlelight vigil to mourn the tragedy in Tucson. The team was there to translate expressions of judgment and blame into needs met and unmet. One of the team members brought the photo collage and candle that is pictured.
