Say hi! at the AZRDC Rural Policy Forum
The 2012 Rural Policy Forum connects rural nonprofits with grantmakers that fund projects in rural communities. AGF has been very active in planning for the Forum each year, as it is coordinated through the AGF Rural Funders affinity group. At this year's event, AGF's Tom Torretta and Emma Schneider will be a part of a panel to answer Information Technology questions. Learn more about what this event has to offer!

AGF Members participate in Back to School Clothing Drive
The Back to School Clothing Drive helps the growing number of Valley children who need assistance with back-to-school shopping - clothes, shoes, books, backpacks, etc. Many of our members are a part of this great event - BHHS Legacy Foundation, Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, and Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation, among many other generous organizations. In addition, over 2,500 volunteers gave their time to help make this event a success, packing backpacks and guiding children around the event. Read more.
Marguerite Casey Foundation Unveils 2012 Equal Voice Family Platform and Policy Recommendations
A new report from the Marguerite Casey Foundation gives voice to policy priorities of 6,000 poor families surveyed from Alabama to California. Through a series of surveys, both online and in-person families were asked what they needed to thrive. "Poor people are spoken for, to and about but they're never asked for their opinion about the issues or the policies that affect their lives." said Luz Vega-Marquis, president and CEO of Marguerite Casey Foundation. Harold C. Dorenbecher Senior Vice President Northern Trust
Name: Harold C. Dorenbecher Age: 62
Birthplace: Rockville Center, NY
Family: Married to Mary Heiss. Daughter, Maria
First Job: My first job was taking inventory at the department store - Abraham & Strauss in Hempstead New York. I appreciated the employee discount which may account for my inability to stop buying clothes. Most Interesting Job: My current position as a Managing Director at Northern Trust is the most challenging and rewarding job that I have had during my career. Although I have had many different job responsibilities during my career in the private banking and financial services industry, the most satisfying aspect of all my jobs is working with clients to meet their financial goals and to serve their needs.
Hobbies/Favorite pastime: The passion that Mary and I share is the joy of travel. We have been fortunate to have gone on numerous trips around the world. Learning about other cultures rewards us with a global perspective on our life, the life of our family, and the role we all play in the global community. My favorite pastimes at home include golf, reading and completing crossword puzzles.
Path to Philanthropy: In my younger days I was very involved in the political process. One of my friends suggested that I channel some of my energy and time to a non-profit organization. My first formal Board appointment was on the Pima County Alcohol Consortium Board which awarded government grants to a variety of substance abuse programs. When I moved to Phoenix, I was a graduate of Valley Leadership Class IX which set me on the path to be involved in numerous nonprofit organizations as a volunteer, committee member and Board member over the last 30 years.
Favorite quote or motto: "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are." - John Wooden
