Arizona Gives Day scheduled for Spring 2013
Gives days are designed to create a sense of excitement around one day for the whole community to come together to support nonprofits. Cities and states across the country have leveraged gives day campaigns to enhance support for their own nonprofit sectors. Planning is underway for Arizona Gives Day in Spring 2013, spearheaded by AGF and the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits.

Roosevelt Row receives $150,000 grant 
This effort, under the leadership of Roosevelt Row Community Development Corporation, will brand and visually identify Phoenix's Roosevelt Row Cultural District, just east of a light rail stop, as a vibrant arts community through new streetscape design guidelines, a portable temporary gallery and artist live/work space. LISC Phoenix celebrates 20 years

LISC Phoenix commemorates two decades as a leading organization dedicated to revitalizing and sustaining Arizona communities. The highlight of the year will be the 20th Anniversary Breakfast and Community Awards on November 15, 2012, at the SRP PERA Club.  Former Phoenix Suns player, and LISC national board member, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson has been invited to deliver the keynote address. This 20th Anniversary event will enable us to celebrate our shared worked and raise awareness of its importance to members of state and local policymakers; business and foundation leaders; and the community. Arizona Republic Charities award $560,000 in grants
Arizona Republic Charities grants over half a million dollars to 22 agencies that support child-abuse and neglect prevention. The grants are mostly funded from the sales of "It Shouldn't Hurt to Be a Child" license plates that are promoted as a part of the yearlong series by the Arizona Republic, 12 News, and azcentral.com investigating the welfare of Arizona's children. Arizona Statewide Initiative Among Finalists For National Award 
An innovative plan to ensure that more Arizona children are reading at grade level by the end of third grade has been chosen as a finalist for the All-America City Award sponsored each year by the National Civic League. Arizona's application one of 32 finalists selected through a peer review process from a field of more than 100 entries across the country. 

 

The Arizona initiative is being spearheaded by three funders - Helios Education Foundation, Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust and the Arizona Community Foundation (ACF) - who are collaborating with the Valley of the Sun United Way, United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, United Way of Northern Arizona, the United Way of Yuma County, numerous cities and other organizations across the state who are committed to the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading.
