New affinity groups We are launching two new affinity groups this year. The Health Funders Affinity group will launch later this spring and the Evaluation and Impact group will hold its inaugural meeting on April 4, 11:30-1:30. Click here to register.

Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust recognized for support of programs focused on older adults The National Council on Aging in Washington D.C. will recognize Piper with an Arthur Flemming award for a decade of work supporting older adults in Maricopa County. Piper also announced $3.6 million in grants covering a range of programs, including support to parents of blind children, improving arts & culture venues in the Valley, and expanding the Encore Fellows program. Flinn Foundation names former Flinn Scholar as director Matt Ellsworth, a former Flinn Scholar and a five-year Flinn Foundation staff member, has been named director of the Flinn Scholar program. Read more.
Helios Joins Science Foundation Arizona To Launch The Arizona STEM Network Helios Education Foundation announced their collaboration with Science Foundation Arizona, a nonprofit public-private partnership, to implement the Arizona STEM Network. This 5-year plan to develop science, technology, engineering, and math education in Arizona has been primarily funded by Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Foundation, who have committed to an additional 3-year, $2.2 million investment towards this initiative. Path to Philanthropy: My professional career has had as many zigzags as Madonna's. Community mental health psychologist, college teaching, International Rep for the AFL-CIO, restaurant and bar owner, teaching in international schools, researcher, to philanthropy is a pretty circuitous route.

April 25 Family Business Forum Presented by the Arizona Community Foundation's Pakis Center for Business Philanthropy, the first session in the 2012 Family Business Forum series will take place in April. During the session titled Best Practices for Families in Business, family business consultant Leslie Dashew, MSW, will discuss the best practices of successful family-owned businesses and share a tool that participants can use to assess their own implementation of best practices.
