Member Spotlight

Kim Van Pelt

Director, Arizona Health Futures,

St. Luke's Health Initiative

Name: Kim Van Pelt

Age: 45

Birthplace: Schenechtedy, NY, but moved all around the country growing up.

Family: Married for 19 years to my husband Bill. We have two kids, Liam and Larissa, ages 16 and 13.

Most interesting job:

Early in my career, I worked as a grassroots organizer. I helped organize a march attended by over 10,000 people and I helped plan and implement successful get-out-the vote campaigns. The job gave me some limited understanding, respect (and a smidge of healthy disdain) for how politics works.

Hobbies/Favorite pastime:

Spending time with my children

Path to Philanthropy:

I have served as a grassroots organizer, fundraiser, program evaluator, advocate, legislative staffer, policy analyst and public administrator. I have worked for a hospital, various non-profit organizations, and several government agencies.  My work has focused almost exclusively on health and children's issues. Before this job, I worked for First Things First, where I oversaw five regional councils and the administration of over $34 million in grants.

Favorite quote or motto:

"You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough." Mae West
