Belen K. Gonzalez

 Belen Gonzalez

Vital Stats:

40 years old

Born in Phoenix, AZ

Married to David Gonzalez

Three sons: Devan (20), DJ (3) and Gabriel (4 months).

Current Position:

Program Officer,

Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, and Volunteer Coordinator for the Latina Giving Circle.

First job: During high school at Wendy's, I managed the salad bar- which was great during the summer because my "office" was a commercial walk-in refrigerator.

Most interesting job:

My current position with the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, because I get to work with agencies with a variety of missions.

Path to Philanthropy:

Fate. When I returned to Phoenix after graduate school in Chicago, in 1999, my mother suggested I connect with Harriet Ivey (President/CEO), whom she met through a grant request to the Trust.  Six months later I was offered a position with the Trust.

Favorite pastime:

Scrapbooking with my aunt and cousin.

Favorite quote:

"Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot un-educate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore. We have seen the future, and the future is ours."

-Cesar Chavez

Public Policy Committee
AZ capitol building

AGF's newly established Public Policy Committee held its first meeting on April 18. Kim VanPelt from SLHI graciously agreed to serve as Chair.

The role of the committee will be to engage members in the public policy arena to help strengthen their work in the philanthropic sector.  It will also facilitate collaboration and identify opportunities for the philanthropic sector to play a leadership role in public policy.

One of the first tasks will be to gather data on Arizona-based organizations involved in public policy, and capture this data in a matrix.

The committee expects to meet again in June. If you are interested in joining the Public Policy Committee, please contact Kim VanPelt (kim.vanpelt@slhi.org).
