Idioms and Expression at the Workplace

In this weeks newsletter we are going to list a couple of Spanish colloquial expressions used at work (Spain). These expressions usually don't appear in the dictionaries but sometimes they are quite useful!

Ser un trepa - A social climber. This expression can have a degrading meaning and all "trepas" are generally not well liked! Isabel es una auténtica trepa. Acuérdate que empezó haciendo las fotocopias y mira a qué ha llegado. ¡Con un despacho propio!

Quedarle a uno dos telediarios - The "telediario" is the name of the Spanish Radio TV news. This expression means that somebody doesn't have a long time to do an activity. It is used to express a contract or the holiday time end. Es una pena, pero por muy bueno que sea en el trabajo, a Pedro le quedan dos telediarios en esta empresa. El próximo mes van a hacer recorte de personal.

¡Qué poca sangre! - Colloquial and familiar expression which someone regrets that another one has no energy to do a task. The blood represents here the vitality impulse, the energy and the shrewdness. No te creas que pienso contratar a Francisca. Es una chica con más poca sangre, que los clientes acabarían por marcharse sin comprar nada.

    "Cool School of the Month"

ECELA Spanish school is cool because they aren't just one great school.. they are FIVE great schools! In addition, they allow students who want to visit more than one location, to travel from school to school, continuing to learn on the same curriculum. This is an option we haven't seen offered with any other school! And its just one of the reasons we feel great recommending this school to all Think Spanish readers.
