A vision for the IoT home

In an interactive workshop, Philips Design teamed up with Philips I.T. Strategy and Innovation to invite the audience to join them in taking a critical look at how far the roadmap to an IoT has really progressed, whilst posing the question - How can we speed up past the "trough of disillusionment" to reach the "plateau of productivity?"

Who will invest in the hardware, software and services to enable the IoT scenarios that the visionaries have long been dreaming of? What will the currency of the Internet of Things be? What are the scenarios that will entice consumers to welcome the IoT into their homes to participate in their lives? At what cost and providing what value? Financial, social and environmental.

Kickstarter project of the hour

At Think Automatic, they believe that smart home technology should be cost effective to install, simple to configure, and seamless to use. They plan to use computerized lighting controls and software that learns what consumers like.

The beauty of their Luminode Wall Switches isn't just that they look, act, and feel like a familiar light switch. They monitor electricity usage and help save energy. They communicate wirelessly using a simple protocol making them easy to integrate with our back end learning system which connects with other automation panels, AV equipment, and smart phones.

GreenGoose and motivating change

GreenGoose has a line of motivating - and at times hilarious - apps based on their sensors. Apps claim to encourage kids to brush their teeth, remind the humans to feed their pets and most importantly, reward the gentlemen in your life for getting the lid down.

Kickstarter Success Story: Sensordrone

Sensordrone can fit on your keychain, monitor your environment, and talk with your smartphone via Bluetooth.  Sensordrone already includes more sensors than anything else available, so you can run hundreds of new apps.  Apps that are surprisingly useful in your daily life, fun apps, scientific apps, and more.

If you have a Sensordrone, you can run apps on your tablet or smartphone to monitor carbon monoxide and air quality, find gas leaks, measure your child's temperature, log the weather, and much more.
