City Updates Strategic Plan
The public is invited to help update the City's existing 2007 Economic Development Strategic Plan and thus help shape the economic future of the City of North Port. By attending the public meetings, residents will help to determine what the economic development direction should be for the City of North Port in the next three to five years.
As the recession ends and the slow recovery begins, it is important to look to the future and sit down and figure out what the citizens want for this community, said Allan Lane, Economic Development Manager.
The City of North Port has hired the Florida Institute of Government (FIOG) to facilitate the public meetings. Residents, visitors, business owners, and various stakeholders are invited to participate.
"Much has changed in our local economy as well as the national and global economy since 2007, and it is time that we examine where we've been with our economic development activities and what we need to do to adapt to the changes, challenges, and opportunities that the current economic recovery will present, now and in the future," said Allan Lane, Economic Development Manager for the City.
There will be three public meetings within a 10-day period in April. The meetings are identical and residents are encouraged to choose the time and location most convenient for them. Meeting dates are:

While the government is responsible for economic development, it is the private sector that makes economic development happen, and the North Port EDC will focus its efforts on working with both the public, civic, and private sectors to create economic engines and catalysts for economic development.
