Irish band Téada will perform at the Institute of Musical Traditions on 14th March.  

 

One of Irish traditional music's leading exponents, Téada is driven by a fascination for the timeless, expressive force of music inherited from previous generations of musicians.

Reel Around the Shamrock at the Strathmore  

 
The Strathmore Music Center is hosting a Reel Around the Shamrock St. Patrick's Day Celebration with Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Soul, Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance with Brendan Mulvihill and Billy McComiskey.

 

Eileen Ivers has earned the title "the Jimi Hendrix of the violin" (The New York Times), and her band Immigrant Soul, "rocks the house everywhere it plays" (The Boston Globe). This St. Patrick's Day dance and celebration joins Ivers, her champion players and a host of gifted guests in a jig-worthy party on stage at Strathmore!

Celtic Thunder - The 1982 Reunion! 

With driving rhythms, fresh melodies and literate lyrics Celtic Thunder was the soundtrack of Baltimore`s Irish gatherings starting in 1977. They went on to tour Ireland, play the Clinton White House (twice!), and be named "one of the best Irish folk acts in America" by The Washington Post. Original members Jesse Winch (bodhran, bouzouki), Terry Winch (button accordion), and Linda Hickman (flute) are joined by singer Dominick Murray and fiddle great Tony DeMarco, reconstituting the group's line-up ca. 1982.

Northern Virginia St. Patrick's Day Celebration "Meet the Author" Events

 

Ballycastle Enterprises LLC and Michael Healy, professional genealogist, author and travel photographer of the "Irish Genealogy Tips, Techniques, and Tales", "Ireland Mosaic: A Photo Journey", and "Irish Pubs Photo Book Volume 1" Nook eBooks, announced that local Northern Virginia Barnes & Noble bookstores will host a St. Patrick's Day celebration "Meet the Author" event.  The public is invited to visit the Barnes & Noble stores' Nook sections to meet Mike and learn more about his new Irish eBooks on the Nook.

Irish guitarist John Feeley

Irish guitarist John Feeley will perform at the Westmoreland Congregational Church on Saturday, 24th March.


Known widely for his arrangements of traditional Irish music,John's program will feature some of these arrangements plus his interpretations of the Bach Chaconne, other classics and some new works for the guitar.

Expanded Irish Music Classes at Washington Conservatory

at Glen Echo Park

 
New Irish Fiddle Classes 

The Washington Conservatory of Music at Glen Echo Park announces new evening Irish Music classes for both youth and adults.  Popular area fiddler Mitch Fanning is teaching two new fifteen-week classes of Irish Fiddle beginning on Wednesday, March 7.

 

Other classes in March and April include Irish Bodhran with well-known musician Jesse Winch, and Beginning and Intermediate Irish Flute and Irish Bouzouki taught by members of the Wammie-nominated duo "Lilt": Tina Eck, flute and Keith Carr, bouzouki.  Classes and private instruction in Irish-style accompaniment for bouzouki and guitar are taught by special arrangement.

Ireland Travel Photo Exhibit in Leesburg, Virginia

 

Ballycastle Enterprises LLC and Michael Healy, professional genealogist, author and travel photographer, announced an Ireland travel photo exhibit "The Irish Public House" at King Street Coffee, 110 S. King Street, Leesburg, Virginia. The photo exhibit is open 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily Monday - Sunday for the entire month of March.

CCÉ Musical Arts and Dance (MAD) Week

 

CCÉ Musical Arts & Dance (MAD) Week  will take place the week of July 9-13 on the grounds of Cedar Lane Unitarian Church in Bethesda, Maryland.
  
"We're hoping to get more families involved this summer," says Mitch Fanning, director of MAD Week; "there's no better way for families to explore and celebrate Irish music or cultural heritage - there's something for old and young, siblings and parents alike," continued Fanning.


The CCÉ MAD Week faculty, many of whom are world-class and All-Ireland performers and recording artists, will be featured in a public concert on Wednesday evening, July 11. This event will be co-sponsored and jointly produced by the Institute of Musical Traditions as part of their concert series at a location TBD.
