Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore begins a three day visit to Washington and New York today
Ireland's Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) and Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade Eamon Gilmore is visiting Washington DC today.
Tánaiste Gilmore's visit programme begun with his participation in a roundtable event at the Brookings Institution on theme of 'Eurozone Crisis: The Irish Path to Recovery'. The Tánaiste will also meet with Deputy Secretary of State William J. Burns of the US State Department for a discussion on bilateral and wider foreign policy issues and separately with the U.S. Helsinki Commission for a presentation of Ireland's OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office 2012 Work Progamme. The Tánaiste will meet throughout the afternoon on Capitol Hill with the 'Friends of Ireland' ad hoc Congressional group and other Congressional contacts.
On Thursday the Tánaiste will participate in the "Invest in Ireland" roundtable discussion organised by President Clinton in New York and brief US members of the Global Irish Network on the progress that has been made since the Global Irish Economic Forum held in Dublin last October.
The Tánaiste will also address the United Nations Security Council in his capacity as Chair-in-Office of the OSCE and meet afterwards with UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon. |

Fionnula Flanagan to receive lifetime achievement award at the Annual Irish Film & Television Awards
The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) is delighted to announce that Fionnula Flanagan will be honoured with the IFTA Lifetime Achievement Award at the 9th Annual Irish Film & Television Awards, in Dublin on 11th February.
Speaking about Fionnula Flanagan and her Lifetime Achievement Award, IFTA Chief Executive Áine Moriarty said: "IFTA is proud to pay tribute to one of Ireland's finest actresses, celebrating her work spanning almost 50 years and showcasing her great skill and craft in illuminating every character she has portrayed, captivating audiences around the world.

EUNIC Washington presents the European Conversation Club at the Alliance Française de Washington DC
EUNIC Washington presents the European Conversation Club at the Alliance Française on 17th February, at which the audience will have a chance to discover the richness of languages in Europe.
After a short presentation on the diverse languages of Europe, guests will be invited to attend two 30-minute, beginner level classes of some European languages, including Irish with múinteoir Ronan Connolly, as well as Catalan, Danish, German, Greek, Irish, Portuguese, Romanian and Slovenian.
