Meaningful Interactions for the Career Seeker & Adult Educator

The process of communication involves a two-way exchange, even when it has been initiated by one person with the intention of delivering information. For the career seeker and adult educator, communication has the potential to be much more powerful when it becomes a meaningful interaction. The career seeker's communication is based upon a need to explore, discover, explain, present, and share information. The adult educator's communication is based upon a need to facilitate the learning process, provide feedback, and build working relationships. These are important conversations that consist of messages intended to convey information, and they can be greatly enhanced through a meaningful exchange. Please read my blog for the full article. Resources for Adult Educators

Dr. J is publishing articles related to the field of adult education

Here are some of the articles available, along with a preview:

Connecting with students through powerful communication: It can be challenging for instructors to find methods of relating to their students in a meaningful way. One technique for reaching out to students and developing classroom interactions is through the use of powerful communication, which engages the students' mind and stimulates their willingness to participate in the learning process. A powerful communication message is one that connects with students and does not get lost during the process of internal filtering. Methods that can be used to enhance classroom communication include choosing appropriate words, avoiding the possibility of talking up or down to the students, watching for exaggeration and generalization, and monitoring the outcome.

Understanding the basics of adult learner motivation: The process of learning can be enhanced when adult learners are highly motivated and active classroom participants. Instructors who understand the basics of adult motivation have a greater ability to influence and enhance the level of that motivation while interacting with adults in their classroom.

Tools for building productive working relationships: There's a difference for instructors between getting along with students and finding a way to work with them throughout the duration of the class. Instructors that develop meaningful interactions with their students often find that they are also promoting the development of effective working relationships. When students feel that they have a connection with their instructor they are likely to participate in the class, maintain communication, and be receptive to the feedback and guidance provided.
