Dragon Happenings

Dear Imagine Families,

DragonLogo

Just two more weeks, and we start another fantastic year!  I hope you enjoyed your summer break, but are ready to get back into the routine.

We're finalizing class lists, organizing the meet and greet, getting bus routes finalized and helping teachers get settled into their new classrooms.  Professional development for our new staff begins this week!

This issue provides information on our new sports program, middle school lockers, parent liaison position, and much more. It also includes several repeat pieces that parents will find informative.

Help us keep our floors looking beautiful-   Please avoid any wheeled carts that leave long drag marks on the floor.  We also notice that black soled rubber shoes leave black marks on the floor.  When you're shopping for school shoes, please avoid sneakers that leave marks.

Don't forget to sign up to be a volunteer for this school year!

Bus Driver: We are adding a fourth bus next year, and are in need of back up drivers or substitute drivers.  If you have a CDL license and are interested in being a bus driver, please contact theresa.reed@imagineschools.com  .

Vote for Imagine
Target

Want to help our kids? It's easy. Our school can receive up to $10,000 in Target GiftCards® for books or any supplies we need. Wouldn't that be great? All we need to do is vote for our school each week until September 8. It's part of Give With Target®. For every 25 votes our school receives, Target will send a $25 gift card. Find out more and vote at Facebook.com/Target.

Type in Land O Lakes, FL and the list of registered schools comes up.  We are on the next page and have 39 votes already!

Middle School Lockers
Lockers Lockers are a new addition to our middle school program this year!  Lockers are available to 7th and 8th grade students beginning the first day of school.  An additional order of lockers will be delivered in 3-5 weeks for our sixth graders.

The lockers are the result of three 6th grade students who were determined to find a way to reduce the weight of the items they carried from class to class.  Current and future middle school students need to thank  Laura Koscielniak, McKenzie Moore and Mara Leet  for their efforts in researching costs and providing a compelling case for the need of lockers.

There are more thank yous to give out:
  • Thank you to the girls' Scout Troop for donating $500 towards the cost of the lockers.
  • Thank you to the PTO for donating $2000 towards the lockers.
  • Thank you to Lisa McDonnell for finding us the best price and arranging the purchase and delivery.

Students will need to rent a combination lock for the year for $5.  Students may not purchase their own lock.

We will have various information tables set up in the gym for parents to  confirm that all immunizations/physicals are current, and that all fees are paid. When this is completed, parents will be given their child's placement.

Fees
1. New students paid all their fees at registration.
2. Elementary returning students have a $20 fee to cover the cost of the planner, Friday folder, and part of the science book costs.
3. Middle school returning students have a $35 fee to cover the cost of their locker fee and the cost of the science book.  Parents who paid for their book will be credited that amount and will owe $7 in remaining fees.  There is also a $5 rental fee for the lock students may use on their locker.

Supplies
1. Elementary parents may bring in supplies or write a check to Imagine for $40 and the money will be placed in an account for the teacher to purchase the supplies as needed.
2. Middle school students keep their supplies with them, and turn in only 2 reams of copy paper and construction paper.

Immunizations

Bus Information
A fourth bus will be added this year and will provide for those students on 54 in Wesley Chapel (Westbrook, Lexington Oaks, Grand Oaks and Stagecoach)  The 2012-13 bus routes will be posted on the website in the next few days.  Please note that the times will be a little earlier since school will begin at 8:50 this year.

i9Sports The league director will have a table for interested parents to get more information.

PTO
PTO will be there with information about their plans for the coming year, and assist you with signing up as a volunteer at Imagine through the Pasco website.
Parent Liaison to the Board
Liaison
Florida Statute 1002.33(7)(d)1, F.S., requires that charter school governing boards appoint a representative to "facilitate parental involvement, provide access to information, assist parents and others with questions and concerns and resolve disputes."

Stephen Foshey, a current Imagine parent and board member, has agreed to be our liaison to the board.  He is in law enforcement, so parents can understand that we are not publishing his contact information.

To contact Imagine's Parent Liaison to the Board:  Contact Dayna Reiss (Office Manager) at dayna.reiss@imagineschools.com or at 813-428-7444.  She will contact Mr. Foshey, and he will contact you.

Supplies
SchoolSupplies We've made a concerted effort to limit the amount of dollars parents need to spend on supplies this year.  Supply lists for grades K-5 are listed below.  Parents have the option of purchasing the supplies or writing a check for $40 to Imagine School and the dollars will be allocated to your child's teacher supply account.

Kindergarten Supply List
Grade 1 Supply List
Grade 2 Supply List
Grade3 3-5 Supply List

The middle school supply list can be found here and will be posted on the website.  Middle school students are expected to come to class prepared with all their supplies.

Imagine Teachers
TeachersProfessions All our classroom positions have been filled, and I believe you'll be excited by the roster of exceptional talent.  Student schedules and classroom assignments will be distributed during the Meet and Greet evenings.

This year we are transitioning to grade level teams.  With the exception of one team in first grade, elementary students will have two teachers.  The schedule provides for all students at a grade level to have lunch, recess and PE at the same time.  It's going to be a great year!!

Yearbook Order
Yearbook
We had great success this past year with the sale of our Yearbook, but we also know many of you did not get a Yearbook because we ran out of copies.  We don't want to see this happen to you next year, so we are starting the sale of our 2012-2013 Yearbook now!

To place your order for the 2012-2013 Yearbook, please go to www.jostensyearbooks.com  to place your order. The cost is $27 (over 30% off list price), and with your early order you will also receive an Entertainment Coupon Book with savings of over $400 on family favorite places such as Hungry Howies, Steak 'n Shake, Dicks Sporting Goods, Regal Movie Theaters, and many other restaurants and stores.  This offer is only good until September 30, so order now!

Are you a Kindergarten, Third Grade, or Eighth Grade parent interested in celebrating the graduation of your student with a recognition ad?  Go to www.jostensadservice.com  to begin creating your dedication to that special kid!  Recognition ads need to be submitted by December 1, 2012.

Are you a business interested in advertising in our book?  Go to www.jostensadservice.com to begin creating your business ad that will be in print forever!  Business ads need to be submitted by December 1, 2012.

Please note that ALL book ordering, recognition ads, and business ads will be need to be done online this year.  Imagine School will not be handling any ordering or ad creation services at the school.

Order now to get the best price possible for your Yearbook.  You won't want to miss out on the chance to remember all of the fun this upcoming year will hold!

Yearbook Club Application
Yearbook2 The Yearbook Club (yes, club!) for 7th and 8th grade this year will be offered at 8:00am each morning.  In order to be considered for part of the Yearbook Staff, you will need to complete an application and return it to the front office by July 31, 2012.  Please click here for the application.

Mrs. Kilmer plans to interview students during the first week of school, and will have the Yearbook Staff chosen by the second week of school.  Each student will be assigned to two work days (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday), and will be expected to be at school by 8:00am each week on these days.  Fridays of each week will be an optional day, or in some cases, a required make-up day as needed.

Being a part of the Yearbook Staff is a great experience.  Students get to create their very own piece of history!  It also requires a lot of dedication and organization.

I look forward to having an excellent year and an excellent staff!

Mrs. BreAnne Kilmer, Yearbook Advisor
