Dear Imagine Families,

SummerFun

I hope your family is enjoying the summer vacation. We are busy preparing for our expansion next year with some room changes, and hiring of additional teachers.

This issue of the newsletter includes several middle school items (electives, science textbook and yearbook club), a parent survey to provide us your feedback, and a final call for returning students to request a bus seat.

Parents will also find summer math challenge packets for each grade level.  These activities will help your child remain current and prepared for the start of the new year.

There are a few updates and minor changes to share with you.
  • The school hours will be from 8:50-3:30 this year.
  • The Meet'n Greet dates have been revised to provide for three separate dates.

Bus Driver: We are adding a fourth bus next year, and are in need of back up drivers or substitute drivers.  If you have a CDL license and are interested in being a bus driver, please contact theresa.reed@imagineschools.com  .

Middle School Electives
Electives Our middle school students signed up for their elective(s) in the spring before school ended.  If you have not already done so, please return the Middle School Electives form with your desired elective choices to the office by June 30, 2012.

If you did not receive the elective form, please click here to download it. You may also email it to Mrs. Kilmer at
breanne.kilmer@imagineschools.com.  Decisions regarding elective placements depend on many factors (FCAT scores, teacher input, etc.), therefore students are not guaranteed their first choice in elective placement. In many cases, first come first serve will apply.

Bus Request Final Call
Bus
This week is the last week we'll give priority bus seating to returning students over newly enrolled students.  Please be sure to complete a bus request form if your child is returning to Imagine, and you would like them to ride a bus. After this week, we'll begin to fill seats with the many new students that have enrolled.

Attached is a form that can be printed out and completed.  Hard copies will also be available in the office.  Priority will be given to current bus riders and their siblings, but a form must be completed in order to reserve the seat.

Remaining seats will be assigned to students based on their length of time at Imagine.  If there are still seats available, remaining seats will be given out to new students based on their school registration date.

Summer Math Challenge
MathFunctions2 Imagine Schools developed a grade level math packet for parents and students to complete during the summer months.  Some review and practice over the summer will help your student retain much of the skills and ideas they learned during the school year.  The math packets are listed below.  The answer key will be available in August.   Students should complete the packet for the grade level they completed. Have fun together!

Parent Feedback
SurveyClipboardEach school year brings the opportunity to review and refine our policies and procedures.  I invite our returning parents to complete the attached survey that includes topics that were raised last year.

Give us your feedback here.
Parent Input Letters
PaperPencilAs we near the end of this school year,  planning is in place for August.  One piece of planning is the placement of students in classrooms.   We will move to grade level teams, and that means that students may have a different teacher next year.

I will review the academic and social/emotional behavior of your child when reviewing their current classroom configurations.  Teacher input and review of the end of year assessments are important pieces to determining placement.  Parent input is also a valuable piece, so you are invited to provide written input to be considered.

Letters that describe the kind of learning environment you want for your child will be accepted and reviewed prior to final placement.  It is not appropriate to request that your child be place in, or not placed in a specific classroom.  The only exception that is made to teacher requests is when you've had personal experiences with the teacher during a previous school year.

Please include your child's name, grade level they're entering in August, and your contact information in the event further information is needed.  If you have more than one child at Imagine, please send in separate letters for each child.

Immunizations
Immunizations Students must be up to date on all vaccinations in order to start school in August.  Please schedule a visit with your child's doctor before the start of school.

State required immunizations by grade level are provided on the Pasco School District link.    Immunizations
Science Textbook
ScienceFusion
Your middle school science team is gearing up for an enjoyable year of Life, Earth, and Physical Science.  To ensure the success of your child in his or her Science class this year, it is important that they have the correct materials to accomplish this goal.  Imagine School will be using student textbooks called "Fusion." The textbook will aid your child in learning all of the material and provide a hands-on medium from which to study.

Every student will be required to have his or her own copy of the appropriate grade level text. We will be ordering the textbooks at a discounted price of $27. Please see Dayna Reiss at the front office to place your order soon, as students will need the books at the beginning of the year. Orders should be placed by Friday, July 27, 2012.

We are also organizing a book sale in order for students to get their hands on used copies, which can be expected to sell for roughly half price of a new book. The book sale is scheduled for Thursday, July 26, 2012 between 4-6pm.  If you wish to sell your old copy but can't come to the event, please drop it off at the office before July 26th clearly labeled with your name.  We will sell your copy and reimburse you.  You will also be able to order new copies at this time.

Thank you for your contribution to your child's education.

Yearbook Club Application
Yearbook2 The Yearbook Club (yes, club!) for 7th and 8th grade this year will be offered at 8:00am each morning.  In order to be considered for part of the Yearbook Staff, you will need to complete an application and return it to the front office by July 31, 2012.  Please click here for the application.

Mrs. Kilmer plans to interview students during the first week of school, and will have the Yearbook Staff chosen by the second week of school.  Each student will be assigned to two work days (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday), and will be expected to be at school by 8:00am each week on these days.  Fridays of each week will be an optional day, or in some cases, a required make-up day as needed.

Being a part of the Yearbook Staff is a great experience.  Students get to create their very own piece of history!  It also requires a lot of dedication and organization.

I look forward to having an excellent year and an excellent staff!

Mrs. BreAnne Kilmer, Yearbook Advisor
