Dear Friends of Family Crisis Center,

As we approach the holidays, we at Family Crisis Center would like to wish everyone a happy, safe, and loving holiday season.  Family Crisis Center is also thankful during the holidays for the generosity we receive from community members to be able to help take the crisis of domestic violence out of families.  We recieve donations during the holidays, but also every day of the year.  We look forward to a 2011 where we can continue to help families, and move into our new/old location on Apache.  Look forward to a construction update in January.

Happy Holidays!

Does Domestic Violence Increase During the Holidays?

This is a question that we receive often around the holidays.  Financial stress, unfair expectations, travel, and increased alcohol consumption, among other things, are all things that families experience during the holiday season.  For someone living with domestic violence, we must all remember that they live with domestic violence on a daily basis.  The stressors that can make any family or person agitated or stressed during this time of the year, can certainly aggrevate an already abusive person; causing them to be more abusive or commit more severe abuse.

The holidays do not cause domestic violence, stress does not cause domestic violence, but bottom line, all of these things mentioned contribute to domestic violence.

To abuse a family member or a spouse is always a choice.

If you or anyone you know need help this holiday season, or feel afraid, you are not alone.  Call the 24 Hour Domestic Violence Hotline to talk to someone during the holidays (505) 564-9192.  Also remember that the shelter is available for anyone in need, even if it is on Christmas Day.
