We have been having so much fun in our "Toddler Time" sessions! Special thanks to our very own Ms. Baylie for helping to coordinate and to the Early Childhood Education Teacher Candidates from Southeastern's Teaching & Learning Department for creating such great lessons! Spots are limited! Call to reserve yours! The fee is $10 per session for non members (or a discount of $36 for the entire month!). The fee is $8 per session for members (or a discount of $30 for the entire month!).

Early Childhood EXPO!

 Thursday, May 3 from 10am-5pm
As a final project, Southeastern Louisiana University Early Childhood Education teacher candidates enrolled in ECE 420 create developmentally appropriate learning centers in order to demonstrate their mastery in teaching  Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten aged students. The students present their learning centers and activities to local early childhood students, local early childhood educators, and the Southeastern community. This semester, the Department of Teaching & Learning has joined in a partnership with the Louisiana Children's Discovery Center so that the students will be able to demonstrate their projects at the LCDC facility in downtown Hammond. The theme this semester, as chosen by the teacher candidates enrolled in the course, is "Games Galore." Over a dozen learning centers will be created surrounding this games theme, each utilizing a different children's game as a theme that will contain hands on, developmentally appropriate activities for young children. These learning center areas will vary not only in theme, but also in content areas. Plans have been made to have reading, math, writing, sensory experiences, gross and fine motor skills, dramatic play, music and art areas.
Admission is $5.50 per person and includes play in the discovery center as well as exploration within the Early Childhood Learning Centers.

Great American Bake Sale

 Saturday, May 12 from 9am-3pm
The Louisiana Children's Discovery Center is proud to hold another "Great American Bake Sale" this year. We invite you and your kiddos to pull out those tried and true favorite baked goods recipes (or try some of those new Pinterest ones!). Deliver your baked goods to the discovery center by 6pm on Thursday, May 10.  Then, if you'd like to help us sell on Saturday, May 12 at the Downtown Hammond Farmers Market please contact Kim Walker OR click this link to sign up to help.
Please stop by the bake sale on Saturday, May 12 to pick up some homemade yummy treats! (Oh what a fun Mother's Day gift idea - some yummy treats!)

Almost Sleepover

 Saturday, May 19 from 6:30pm-10:00pm
The "Almost Sleepover" is our kid drop-off event where parents get a night out! Children have a great night of fun in the discovery center playing games, doing crafts, having dinner AND participating in a community service project. This Almost Sleepover we will be focusing on giving back of our time and talents to our Armed Forces Soldiers who are overseas by bringing items for care packages as well as writing cards/letters and making crafts for the soldiers. We invite girl and boy scouts to contact us for group rates and badge information! The fee is $20 per child ($15 for members) and registration is required by calling 985-340-9150 or emailing Kim Walker. |
