 What's your favorite Shel Silverstein story, poem or illustrated character? We love him and are excited about celebrating his life and work during our Shel-A-Bration!
You'll have fun rotating from poetry station to poetry station full of rhyming, acrostics, concrete poetry, rebus, cryptograms, alliteration, spoonerisms as well as writing your own poem and learning to illustrate in the fun style of Shel Silverstein. We also have a long list of special guest readers who will be here to share their favorite Shel Silverstein writing! Don't miss out on this exciting day!
Admission is $5 and includes all activities plus play in the discovery center!

Worldwide Day of Play!

Saturday, September 24 from 11am-2pm
 Nickelodeon's 8th Annual Worldwide Day of Play is this Saturday and intended to motivate kids to get up, get out & play! We're partnering with Southeastern's Kiniesology & Health Studies Department and Hammond's Academy Sports & Outdoors to bring a great afternoon of FREE active play to the children of our community!
- The first 100 children will receive an awesome Nickelodeon drawstring bag!
- Participate in the PALA (Presidential Active Lifestyle Award) Challenge!
- Enjoy a variety of stations offering active play!
- Each child earns a participation certificate!
- FREE bottled water from Academy Sports & Outdoors
- It's all F.R.E.E.! (does not include admission to discovery center, just Worldwide Day of Play activities)

Buzz'n Bees & a VERY popular Bear!

Tuesday, September 27 from 4:30-6pm
 Come discover all there is to know about honeybees! Beekeeper Jackie Hoover from Steve's Aviary will be here to teach us all she knows!
 Kids & adults will get to sample a variety of yummy honey (or "hunny") while they get to see a display teaching about the honeybee. PLUS a very special guest who just LOVES hunny will be here to play from 11-1 Tuesday morning AND 4-6 Tuesday afternoon. Do I hear a "rumbly in my tummy?"

Mommy & Me Color Wheel Shapes!

Thursday, September 29 from 10-11:30am
 Friend of the discovery center & artist Ms. Shayla Kelly will be teaching this workshop geared towards children ages 3-5.
In this class, children will learn the 6 primary & secondary colors, shapes and how colors mix!
The cost of this fun workshop is $8 for members or $10 for non-members. The adult accompanying the child is free! The cost of this working for children includes your admission to play inside the discovery center! This class will be held at our very own "Piper's Nest" across the street from the discovery center.
