On our website we have "Social Stories" which are video preparations of the various areas inside the discovery center? You can prepare your child for his/her first or next visit to the center by showing them these presentations. Check them out here ! Where's Piper?
| Our new friend is becoming quite the celebrity and will be popping up all over the place.
To keep you updated here's a list of his upcoming appearances:
- "Play with Piper" at the LCDC on Tues/Thurs from 11am-1pm

Greetings!
We've had a blast with the Wild Wednesdays in July and we have one more! Check out the info about that below. Dinosaur Train in Hammond!!!  Please be sure to mark your calendars for Hot August Night in Downtown Hammond on Friday, August 19. As always we have a ton of fun planned and will be THE place for families on this special night! In conjunction with Hot August Night we have developed a very exciting partnership with our local PBS Kids Channel, Louisiana Public Broadcasting . We're thrilled to announce that LPB will be premiering Dinosaur Train's movie Dinosaur Big City with us at the Columbia Theater on Hot August Night! This FREE premier is open to everyone. There will be a variety of fun activities, treats, and special appearances (uh huh...you heard me..."Buddy"!). So mark your calendar! |

Wild Wednesdays!

Wednesday, 7/27 from 11-2pm
 Join us for some wild fun!
"Wild About Ducks" is happening on 7/27/11 from 11-2pm. Playologists, Baylie & Rochell will be putting on a fun, educational program about Wood Ducks and kids will learn how to build a Wood Duck Nest Box (instructions will be given).
Also special thanks to Yawn Station in Independence for coming out. They will be bringing a duck (or more) for children to see and maybe a few other animals!

Caring Through Cranes
|  Thursdays at 4pm
Have you heard the story of the 1,000 Paper Cranes? Then come by on Thursdays at 4pm as Mrs. Lori teaches children the ancient Japanese tradition of making a wish come true with folding paper cranes.
Kids will participate in story time, make a wish & write it on a crane and learn the Origami method of folding a paper crane. They'll also hear all about the tradition of folding 1,000 paper cranes and help the discovery center reach its goal of 1,000 paper cranes! Click here to see the instructions on folding them. You can fold them at home and send them to us also!

Cookies with Piper!

Don't you just love our newest edition to the discovery center, "Piper the Pelican"? To celebrate our new friend, we're happy to have Sweet Ideas the Cake Shoppe help us out with this special "Cookies with Piper" workshop.
 Children ages 4-12 years old will enjoy this sweet time of decorating pelican shaped cookies, an appearance by Piper, a pelican shaped cookie cutter to take home and play in the center (after the workshop with parent). The cost is $20 for members or $25 for non-members. Please call us at 985-340-9150 or email us to register!

 Do you love to paint? We're excited to welcome Painting with a Twist to the discovery center!
Painting With Piper!
If painting is your thing and you love Piper then join us for this exciting activity. Children ages 6 and above will leave this event having painted their very own Piper the Pelican. The cost of this event includes all materials, snack, play time with Piper and admission to play in the discovery center (with parent) after the painting session. Hip-Hop'n with Piper

Piper's having so much fun...decorating cookies, painting and now dancing! Who knew that a pelican could do so much!
Join Piper and friends on Friday, July 29 as Mrs. Beth and friends from Main Street Dance teach Piper and the kids some fancy footwork! Learn to get your moves on with Piper at the discovery center!
