Where's Piper?

Our new friend is becoming quite the celebrity and will be popping up all over the place. 
To keep you updated here's a list of his upcoming appearances:
- "Play with Piper" at the LCDC on Tues/Thurs from 11am-1pm
- The Grande IMax in Slidell for the big Harry Potter Party
- Family Fun Night 7/16 from 6-8pm

Thursday, 7/7 from 10:30-12:30pm
 Kids will learn basic kitchen fundamentals while preparing lunch and a special treat.
- Thursday includes a "backyard" them with hot dogs & dirt cake!
As a bonus, kids will leave with an awesome kitchen tool they used so that they can show Mom & Dad what they learned! Come and have some cooking fun with us!
This workshop is geared towards children ages 5 and up and the cost is $30 which includes play for the day, all of the materials plus your take-home kitchen tool. Please call 985-340-9150 or email us to register!

Trash-2-Treasure
|  Wednesday, 7/13 - Friday, 7/15 from 10:30am-12:00pm
This workshop is being offered to teach kids in a really fun, creative atmosphere the benefits of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". Kids will learn the impact of trash on their environment and what they can do, in their own homes, to help make their own impact. Additionally, kids will take everyday, common trash (like plastic water & soda bottles and plastic shopping bags) items and create unique, interesting things that they can take home. We'll be teaching kids about making "Plarn", making beautiful art projects out of plastic bottles.
This session is limited to 15 children ages 6 and up and the cost for all 3 days is $30 per child (member) or $35 (non-member) and includes all day play, materials and a snack. Pre-registration is required so please call 985-340-9150 or email us.

Family Fun Night!

We hear you! It's time for another night of family fun and we've got it on the calendar for you! The cost of admission is $3 for members and $5 per person for non-members.

Wild Wednesdays!

Wednesday, 7/13, 7/20 & 7/27 from 11-1pm
 Join us for some wild fun!
- Kliebert's Alligator & Turtle Farm will be here on 7/13 from 11am-1pm to show us a baby alligator & some fascinating turtles.
- Southeastern's Biology Department Graduate Student Jen Lee will be here showcasing some of her wild captures such as lizards, frogs & snakes on 7/20 from 11am-1pm!
- "Wild About Ducks" is happening on 7/27/11. Playologists, Baylie & Rochell will be putting on a fun, educational program about Wood Ducks and kids will be able to build a Wood Duck Nest Box. Email Kim Walker for more info or to register your child for the Wood Duck project.

TUG-OF-WAR!!

Who doesn't love a good ole' Tug-Of-War? Eat your protein and bring your best tug with you on 7/21. If you have a team and would like to pair up against another team please let us know! We're happy to set it up! If you have questions or would like to register a team then email us. This fun activity is open to teams who want to register but will also be open to our guests visiting on 7/21. Special thanks to Crossfit Hammond for helping us out by loaning the Tug-Of-War rope for the day!

Cookies with Piper!

Don't you just love our newest edition to the discovery center, "Piper the Pelican"? To celebrate our new friend, we're happy to have Sweet Ideas the Cake Shoppe help us out with this special "Cookies with Piper" workshop.
 Children ages 4-12 years old will enjoy this sweet time of decorating pelican shaped cookies, an appearance by Piper, a pelican shaped cookie cutter to take home and play in the center (after the workshop with parent).
