Caring Through Cranes

Every Thursday at 4pm (beginning June 9) we are happy to announce our "Caring Through Cranes" program!
Kids will:
- learn the tradition and history of the ancient art of origami & the story of Sadako & the Thousand Paper Cranes
- learn to fold paper cranes
- Write a wish, hope or prayer on each of their cranes
- Participate in storytime
Our goal is to help children "create, connect & comfort" by participating in the Caring through Cranes program. We hope to see 1,000 paper cranes created by the sweet hands of the children visiting our center.

Check Out "In the Zone" Tonight! PLUS Vote for the City of Hammond
|  Take It To The Tracks! June 3 from 6:00-8:00pm
Come get "In the Zone" with TRACC down by the tracks! Join your friends and neighbors for the downtown Hammond Take It to the Tracks party. TRACC has partnered with Tobacco Free Living & Southeastern's PEEPS to bring you alcohol & tobacca free family-friendly activities during this event. There will be live bands, dancing, food and craft vendors and shopping late downtown. Bring your lawn chairs and the whole family!

Style Your Tile! Anytime!
|  At Your Convenience!
At your next visit you'll notice a stunning, creative change to the ceiling of the discovery center! Artwork by families, business, friends and organizations all supporting the LCDC! Now, you can pick a tile and style it at a time that is convenient for you! We have a variety of sizes ranging from the 2'X2' ceiling tile for $50, the 2'X4' ceiling tile for $100 or various odd sizes for different amounts. Please call us at 985-340-9150 to schedule your time and reserve your tile!

Discovery Science
|  Dry Ice Bubbles - Saturday, June 4 10am-12pm
Join us for "Bubble Blast" (one free admission for every 24 oz bottle of Dawn dish detergent and/or Karo Syrup) and Discovery Science as we teach kids all about Sublimation and show them a super cool science experiment with dry ice!
 Hot Air Convection - Sunday, June 5 from 1-5pm
The very first hot air balloon took flight on June 5 and because kids are always mesmerized by our awesome hot air balloon simulated exhibit we're pulling together an interesting scientific experiment to show them what makes hot air balloons work. |

Wednesday, June 8 beginning at 10am
I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream! Ice Cream's Birthday (the day it was first sold commercially was in 1786) was on June 8! So what better way to celebrate the 225th birthday of ice cream than with an Ice Cream Sundae from Hammond's Cold Stone Creamery? Join us on June 8 and let your kiddos create their own sundae. We will be prepared for the first 125 kids!

|  Yo-Yo Design & Decorate! Friday, June 10 at 4pm
The yo-yo is a childhood favorite! What was your favorite yo-yo trick when you were a kid? Tell us all about it and pass on your yo-yo tricks to your kids.
