National County Government Month is April National County Government Month is celebrated each April in order to raise awareness and understanding of the roles of county governments and the vital services they provide. This year's theme is "Healthy Counties, Healthy Families." Arizona counties are encouraged to mark the event throughout April in various ways, and then to apply for the National County Government Award. Six winning counties throughout the country will receive free registrations for upcoming NACo Conferences. If your county is planning to mark the event, be sure to let AACo know so we can help you promote your efforts. County Courthouse Awards Deadline Approaching
Dedicated public officials are keenly aware of the special needs of their community, and endeavor to find and implement programs to meet those needs in the service of their constituents. The National Association of Counties knows how hard county officials work to solve the issues plaguing local communities, and recognizes individual officials who champion unique and innovative solutions with the NACo County Courthouse Awards.
County Courthouse Awards are open to all county leaders who see a need in their community and play an integral role in the development of programs that effectively address those needs. Awards are given to individual county leaders, not teams or groups, and recognize their efforts in three categories: Rural, Suburban, and Urban. To be eligible, a program must have come into effect between January 1, 2005 and January 1, 2012.
Winning a County Courthouse Award means more than just personal recognition: winners receive a $5,000 college scholarship to be awarded to a graduating high school senior of their choice in their county. Applications are due by April 27, 2012.
Put the spotlight on your county's public programs, and help out a college-bound student in your community by applying for the 2012 NACo County Courthouse Awards.
