Centennial Legislature Convenes Session  AACo Leaders Recognized- The Centennial Legislature convened in Phoenix for its 2nd Regular Session. On Monday, Governor Janice K. Brewer offered her State of the State Address expressing her gratitude for the work of state policy leaders in addressing Arizona's historic budget deficits over the last few years. Joining Arizona's state leaders at the Capitol on Monday to participate in the ceremonial festivites of Arizona's Centennial Legislature were the officers of the Arizona Association of Counties. AACo Legislative Policy Committee Chair Tim Carter represented AACo on the floor of the House of Representatives as a guest of Speaker Andy Tobin. The Session is expected to continue through March and many legislators have referenced a desire by both House and Senate leadership to adjourn the Session by early April; altough the traditional adjournment goal is on the 100th day of Session. |

State Budget Update  Governor Brewer will unveil her budget proposal on Tuesday, January 17th. The Joint Legislative Budget Committee will explain the Governor's budget proposal the same day at 9:00 a.m. before a Joint Appropriations hearing. Most details about the budget have not been released, however during the Arizona Commerce Authority meeting on Wednesday, the Governor's staff announced her plans for a series of tax reforms intended to make Arizona more attractive to businesses. The plans include changes in three key areas: personal property taxes, corporate income taxes and transaction privilege taxes. |
