As many people know, wool is a fibrous protein derived from the specialized skin cells in animals such as sheep and goats. Known for warmth, strength and durability, wool can absorb moisture almost one-third of its own weight and is resistant to dirt, wear and tear - one reason it's used in so many sweaters and jackets.

The finest and most valuable wool is Merino. Sheep and goats aren't the only sources of wool, though. Did you know that angora wool fabric is obtained from the angora rabbit? Alpaca wool, from the hair of the alpaca, is another variety of this fabric as well.
