Changes To Our Support Policy Based On New Consumer Law
| | ACCC Changes Implemented
WHEN consumers take their goods to have them repaired they do not always realise that the goods may contain stored data that could be lost in the repair process.
This is most likely to happen with items such as mobile phones, computers, portable music players, Digital recorders and other similar electronic goods.
The Australian Consumer Law (ACL) Regulations required that from 1 July 2011 "Repair Notices" must be provided by a repairer to a consumer (yes, businesses too) before they accept goods for repair, where: - The goods being repaired are capable of retaining user-generated data; or
- It is the repairer's practice to supply refurbished goods rather than repair defective goods, or to use refurbished parts in the repair of defective goods.
These obligations apply even if goods were purchased prior to 1 July 2011 and whether or not the goods were initially purchased online or as second-hand goods. So after investigations by us, we won't be able to provide Technical support to you until you have received a notice. If you send us an email for support, our response system sends you the notice automatically. 99% of the support we provide is remote. This law applies to that service. Every time we help you, we have to send a notice and this many slow down the process a bit and we hope it won't. We can't help until you have the notice. Under the legislation we have to give customers "Reasonable Time" before we undertake the repair (support). This means that you can still ring for support by all means, but we just can't log in and help, immediately, without us sending the form first. It will slow the process, but with a 50K fine we won't be testing this out...! More information Here This affects all support where we have to access any computer, DVR or any other devices with user generated stored Information. |

| Good Security Design comes with Planning | | Security Needs To Be Thought Out Long Before You Open. HOW MUCH DOES SECURITY cost? is a common question by new site operators.
With little or no experience in Self Storage newcomers can be excused for not knowing what's needed to secure a Self Storage site.
An increasing trend though is for some to build a second or third site or stage, send out a plan and ask for a quote on "Security."
It's just not that simple anymore. Some security suppliers to Self Storage are not qualified to advise on security. Advisers must be Licenced. Ask for a Licence Number.
Handing over a plan without a clear specification of what's needed and what is expected is almost impossible to quote on.
Do you want the $300 Keypad or the $3000 one? Which one is actually needed, which one is adequate?
How long do you need to retain CCTV images for?
These are just 2 out of many questions that need answers on security upgrades or designs.
We can design additions and new access control systems for new sites and existing sites. We do charge to design these important systems and provide a 'Scope of Works" document of which can then be used to accept quotations. It can take many hours to decipher plans and work out where cameras need to go, equipment needed and specifications researched.
We are Licenced security Advisers and installers. Remember only to use Licenced security personnel. It's the law. Many of the systems designed by us are still working as good today as they were 10 years ago. Good design saves money in the long run.
