One of the most frequent questions that we receive at Guiding Lights is how do you do all of this for family caregivers?  We would not have been able to assist the 1800+ caregivers over the past 15 months if it were not for the financial support that we have received from our community partners, funders, individual family caregiver donors and through the hard work and effort of the dozens of volunteers that have assisted us with our various fundraising projects.  You may have received an annual appeal letter from our offices recently.  Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Guiding Lights this  year.  It costs us $.43/minute to provide assistance to family caregivers.  On average our initial intake calls range between 45-90 minutes long.  To make a secure donation,  please follow the link below:

Information and Referral
Meet with or talk to one of our referral specialists to receive direct referrals to excellent service providers in the community who can meet your caregiving needs.
 
Lending Library
An area within the center that contains multiple forms of media, to include books, pamphlets, videos, and online access to various resourceful caregiving websites.  

Awakening
A customized revitalization and life-managment program designed for individuals wAwakeningith dementia and their caregivers. It includes:
  • Life-managment care plan with in-home application 
  • Cognitive Measurement Testing Tools
  • Mental Exercise Modules
  • Educational Materials
  • Private Consultation  
Skills Lab
The Skills Lab will be made available to professionals and caregivers who desire to practice clinical procedures before testing to become an NA1 or who simply need to refresh their skills before re-certification.

The Skills lab is also available to family caregivers who would like to learn specific procedures and techniques that will assist them in providing direct care to their loved ones.
 
Professional Training
Guiding Lights provides training in such areas as CPR, First Aid, personal care, dementia care, and more.

Nurse Aide I (NAI) Training
The Guiding Lights Nurse Aide 1 (NA1) Training Program is  a North Carolina State DHSR approved and regulated comprehensive program which will train individuals to become Level I NAs. NA1s will go through 125 hours of course study including  clinical rotations in various skilled nursing facilities and adult day programs to strengthen them in the aspects of long-term care, to include specialized dementia training. Our program also provides special emphasis in eldercare, to include dementia training.
 
Family Match Program 
Our Family Match Program will pair new caregivers with existing caregivers in an effort to alleviate concerns, validate feelings/thoughts, and assist with the ability to cope in an experienced way. 

Support Groups 
Family caregiver support groups and professional support groups will be facilitated at the center as well as at nearby community facilities.

Corporate Eldercare Specialists
Guiding Lights provides Referral Specialists to local corporations as an added benefit to their employees by being onsite.
